Much better that 'Take These Chains'
Devil’s Child wouldn’t be top 30.
Chains and Devils Child are both great!

Fever is one of the best songs on there. Pain and Pleasure and the title track are the tracks that don’t hold up to the rest.Neil Diamond Dave wrote: ↑Thu Feb 15, 2024 3:39 pmSorry, but Fever is the clunker. Painkiller is Priest's sellout album. There, I said it.BernieTaupson wrote: ↑Thu Feb 15, 2024 4:57 pm Painkiller fucking sucks.
And it’s arguably not metal but thrash.
It’s Priest pretending to be something they’re not to try to stay relevant.
Only problem is that it didn't sell very good. I guess it outsold Ram It Down but not by much.

Re: Is the hate for Priest’s Turbo really justified??
Turbo: the hate is justified if you hate synths. It seems like there were two categories of Priest fans then, those who were also fans of the harder Slayer/Testament/Metallica bands and those that were into stuff like W.A.S.P./Crüe/Ratt, so the former category must have really hated the new sound, AND the new poofy look. Especially after Defenders, which was metal as fuck.
SfV: Devil's Child/Fever/Take These Chains, I love all three of these, the only song I would skip is the title song, never liked the verses...

No they don't. SIH may be the weakest song on that album but it's far from crap.

Good and probably correct analysis, makes even more sense when you think about the RID tour and how they kicked Cinderella off the tour when ticket sales were slow and instead added Slayer.Psychobolia.com wrote: ↑Fri Feb 16, 2024 4:35 am Turbo: the hate is justified if you hate synths. Thinking about it, "metal as fuck" Defenders was probably the start of the "cartoon metal" Priest, not Ram It Down. RID was the point of no return, but already on Defenders they played to the Beavis & Buttheads of the world with Heavy Duty, Jawbreaker et al.

Then most of us in this thread may as well discount your opinion. Every song on British Steel rules, "Grinder" included. And Turbo is awesome.

I actually lived in Singapore when that American kid's buttcheeks got what was comin to them, 'Pore-style.
And also when chewing gum was made illegal with a 2 week notice.
And to those who say Saints in Hell, Screaming For Vengeance, Grinder, et all suck.... I like to make up fun things to say too! "Paul Stanley is macho and sings great! Rising Farce is cool and fun and funny! Stevil rocks a nice mane of hair! Dont Damn Me is a lib!"

SFV is a good tune. People should quit pretending they don't like it. The other two? Well...they aren't good.HueyRamone wrote: ↑Fri Feb 16, 2024 9:19 am I actually lived in Singapore when that American kid's buttcheeks got what was comin to them, 'Pore-style.

Turbo has 2 good songs, the rest was trash.
Priest sold the fuck out hard on that album. I'm going to assume it sold well but the hardcore Priest fans weren't happy.
I couldn't care less because I was a big Maiden fan and knew that they were superior to Priest.

There's loads of bad things about being born only after Turbo was released.
But the good thing is to hear all these albums without the bullshit that surrounded them for you grandpas. When I heard Painkiller the first 1.000 times I wasn't aware "they were trying to be thrash", dito for Turbo & glam. There's a different sound on each and every album (up to Painkiller at least), nothing ever sounded phony or insincere to me.
Ranking of the original greatest run in heavy-metal ever, not set in stone but pretty stable
9 tot 10/10: Sad Wings, Stained Class, SFV, Defenders, Painkiller
8/10: Sin After Sin, British Steel
7/10: Turbo, Killing Machine
6/10: Rocka Rolla, Point of Entry
5/10: Ram It Down

Interesting list. But...Painkiller is 2/10. Turbo is 8/10. RiD is 4/10. Rocka Rolla is 0/10.jens wrote: ↑Sat Feb 17, 2024 8:14 am There's loads of bad things about being born only after Turbo was released.

Makes no sense. You can still notice the differences in music and know the history of it even if you weren’t around for it. Eg I wasn’t alive when the Beatles released their albums but listening to them I can still see how the music evolved.jens wrote: ↑Sat Feb 17, 2024 8:14 am There's loads of bad things about being born only after Turbo was released.

SFV is one of the best metal albums of all time. (I don't like British Steel quite as much, but it is also a classic.) Turbo isn't nearly as good, and it isn't as good as the album that came before right it, Defenders of the Faith. Combine that with the costume changes - less leather and studs and more of a '86-era Crue or Bon Jovi look - and I guess you're going to get some hate.
"Devil's Child" is one of my favorite dozen Priest songs. The vocals, the guitars and the drums are great. Hell of a song to close an album with!

Yes, but Painkiller totally sounds like the band that did Freewheel Burning or Screaming for Vengeance to me.BernieTaupson wrote: ↑Sat Feb 17, 2024 10:38 amMakes no sense. Just like the cheesy sing-alongs of Turbo doesn't feel radically different to You've Got Another Thing Coming or United.
