Danger Danger...

Post by Nobodyspecial »

What are Bruno and Steve West up to? They seemed to have disappeared. I know Bruno has put out Defiants albums, but other than that zilch. Seems like both of them have no interact in playing out. I've heard that Westy has family money so he doesn't need to work, don't know if that is true or not.

Steve West always seemed like a total fan boy poser, and the type of guy who would suck a Roadie dry to get back stage for KISS (even when DD was on the tour.....)

Danger Danger's best album is "Revolve" (2009)

IMO, Ted Poley would have been a better fit for Warrant than Robert Mason.

I wish I was a Roadie for KISS when Danger Danger was an opener......

Was a,ways curious as to why they do not tour? Or does Poley fully own the DD name?

You pretty much answered your own question!

Bruno writes songs with Paul Laine (ex-Danger Danger) and has done 3 records with the Defiants.

He also works as an audio engineer at Soundcheckers Studio. This may be his home studio, I'm not sure. This might be the first time in Sludge history that someone is posting a linkedin page!
https://www.linkedin.com/in/bruno-ravel-9a908618

I've heard Steve has family money too but don't know the details.

Ted Poley learned a few chords on the guitar and does solo acoustic shows now doing D2 songs.

The band does M3 some years and some random dates but very very few. Steve Brown from Trixter actually filled in the last time I saw them at M3 in 2019, I think.

Their debut is a genre classic. A melodic rock record can't get better than that. Don't Walk Away is one of the best songs ever. They kept releasing good albums, Cockroach and Revolve were both very good.

Ted singing for Warrant instead of Mason would have been fantastic.

All the Danger Danger stuff is great, especially the first two. Why doesn't the band do another album or tour? Ted was pretty active releasing solo/project stuff for a while, but nothing recent since Tokyo Motorfist 4 years or so ago.

Completely agree. Don’t Walk Away should have been released as a single.

Entire first album is a masterpiece.

Yeah, the debut is great. Screw It! has some great tracks on it as well, but the s/t debut is their best.

They were vanilla, cheesy and schmaltzy but I agree. DWA was a classic. Steve and Bruno firing Ted was a boneheaded move.

"Revolve" wasn't as good as the first three Poley albums, but it had some really great stuff on it. I'm still surprised that we got four albums from (mostly) that version of the band.

I remember seeing "Don't Walk Away" as a cassette single back in the day, but there was (stupidly) no video or anything. Huge wasted opportunity.

Out of all the hair bands D2 is probably in my "most played ten," when they were good they were really good. But I also think that when they were bad, they were really bad. There were always two or three cringey tracks per album that were completely unnecessary.

There's also "Rare Cuts" which I only found out existed through streaming. There are some alternative versions of well known songs on there and some unreleased stuff. It's all demos so the sound isn't great, but I really like the very different "Don't Blame It On Love."

Tony Bruno was awesome on the debut, and Timmons was just as good if not better.

Do you have any links to the rare cuts? Would enjoy listening to them.

Also, would like to get my hands on that Don’t Walk Away cassette single!

They made a video for it. I don’t remember it ever getting any air play at the time but there is an official video for it on YouTube.

Had their debut been released between 1984 and 1988 they would’ve been a big band or atleast as big as White Lion. Their debut is as good or better than many releases at the time. Jani and Warrant get a lot of love on here and I am a fan but I thought DD’s debut blew DRFSR away.

I like Ted just fine in DD. If Ted is going to scab for someone he deserves to bat a few leagues up. He’s one of the best in my opinion. I liked his voice better than Bert’s and Jani’s

Cockroach is their best album.
Al Pitrelli of Savatage and TSO plays on some of those Rare Cuts songs.
Steve West is the sole reason D2 doesn’t do anything. He said numerous times he has no interest in recording new D2 stuff, but for some reason is open to playing live shows with them whenever he gets the itch.
Ted’s voice has held up extremely well.

I would love to hear that but Ted sounds best singing Danger Danger songs. He's made a ton of solo records as well as Bone Machine and Melodica. His voice is not nearly as strong on there as it is on the D2 records. Plus, he's not much of a writer.
Still...it would be fun to hear/see him do a show fronting Warrant!

As for Rare Cuts.... I usually do not care for demos but this one is cool because the songs actually sound more pop influenced, and it has some unreleased songs that are really good. Hold On Maria is awesome. And Temptation was actually recorded by Y&T which is cool piece of useless rock trivia!

Ted having a meltdown on stage in Lima Peru last December, kicking the keyboard player's keyboards over, not once, but twice.

What I saw, and experienced was SO not cool... and I told him, point blank.

Danger Danger is Steve West and Bruno Ravel's band, their songs, their record deal (back in the day) and Ted was hired to sing replacing a previous singer.

While I think Ted does a solid job as a singer, performer, there are some things that the fans don't always see, that might have your opinions changing if you really knew!
