10cc / Robin Taylor Zander @ United Theatre
10cc - pretty good
Robin Taylor Zander - mostly Cheap Trick covers, solo acoustic, with 3 originals. The originals weren't bad and not sure if the crowd recognized the CT songs other than IWYTWM and Surrender so I probably would have dug it more if he didn't come out as RZ mini me

Mike Watt was great but by the time Javier Escovedo (original Zeros) I was fading fast.

last night was Sister Sledge free show in an outdoor plaza downtown LA. 1 original member (?) and a bunch of her kids and nephews. Really good show.

Trivia - there were two separate murders on this very ship when it was called Viking Sally.
One of the murders is still unsolved AFAIK. Talk about a cursed ship.

Last show was Jimmy G'Necco from Ours doing an acoustic show at the City Winery in Boston. He had Race playing guitar with him.
Fucking amazing. Easily a top-ten show for me. Jimmy is such an amazing singer and he still sounds amazing after all these years. I might have liked Velvet Revolver if he had taken that gig.
Opening act was awful. I can't remember the guy's name, but I got the sense that he came from money.....because he was not good, his songs were mediocre at best, and he had the most ridiculous cliché rock outfit on that I have ever seen (that probably cost a pretty penny to try to look so trendy). It was worth suffering through his set to hear Jimmy's.

Gene Simmons in Buffalo, Monday night 8/19.
Sold out fundraiser for a lobby restoration at the theatre he played at.
BRENT WOODS is a fucking BEAST on guitar...same set list as the previous shows, only played 12 songs. Too much talking and dicking around on stage. Gene received the key to Niagara Falls on Sunday which was a big deal but then he had the mayor come up and sing, kids up on stage etc. It was a clusterfuck. When they played the band sounded great!
Ace is here tonight, not a sell out but his set is similar to GEnes in terms of KISS songs...

I've seen one show in the big room.....Tiffany a few years ago. They cram too many people into the room and you are at tables with people you don't know.
This was my third show in the smaller 'lounge' room. I've seen the Bieler/Soto show twice there and then this Jimmy G'necco show. I like this room better. You still may end up seated with randoms, but it doesn't feel as crowded. Sound is good, and not a bad seat in the room.
The food is awful. Got stuck eating there twice and both times, no one liked what they ordered.
I'd only go there if it was a show I really wanted to see.

Re: Post your most recent concert review HERE
Checked out the Ice Nine Kills/In This Moment tour last night in Bismarck ND. 2500 people in the General Admission show. I managed to snag a comp ticket from a local sponsor. Something called TX2 was on first playing out to 100% tape with minimum response from the crowd. Avatar was next up and for the life of me, l do not know why this band isn’t huge in 2024. A cross between Ghost and System of a Down. Thought they were very good.
Next up was Ice Nine Kills and they out on a very energetic show despite me not really knowing any of their music. All of the guys seemingly looked exactly like Pete Wentz. INK should have been headlining to close out the show.
A 45 minutes break to set up In This Moment had people heading for the doors. In that span, literally half of the audience left. The band finally takes the stage, plays 1 song and Maria gets on the mic stoping the show for “technical issues” the crew was trying to sort out. I’m pretty certain their tape machine broke and couldn’t get it synced backed up. I’ve seen the band play twice now and both times they were dreadful. After the glitch issue, it was already after 11 pm and l had enough and headed for the parking lot.

My hack for the seats is if it's 3 or 4 people, I get the high tops in back, as it's 4 to a table. Yea, I don't love the high top but you aren't stuck in the middle w/people you don't know, you can see fine & it sounds the same as up front. If it's 1 or 2 people, I go with the 2 seats across from each other at the front of any section. This way you aren't technically sitting with anyone as you can turn your seat to face the stage & it's easy in/out as the aisle is right in front of you.
I do like the back room, as well. Anything I've seen there is usually sparsely attended & plenty of room to move about & sit.
Correct, the food is terrible, we always eat elsewhere. Plus, eating food whilst watching/listening to music doesn't work for me. Once in a while we'll get coffee & dessert, which isn't awful.
My other gripe is the price is higher on the alcohol & lower on the portions than your average place. I get it, but a weak margarita in a 10 oz glass for $18 is a rip off. We generally stick with the wine which, if you get their CW brand, is fair and quality.
One thing I do love, if it says the show starts at 7:30, it starts at 7:30. Not 7:29 or 7:31.

I may have to stick to dessert if I go again. Both times I ate there, we planned to eat elsewhere, but just ran out of time beforehand. I do like that they stick to the scheduled times, and that they are on the earlier side. I'm in Connecticut, so I have to really want to see the show to go there, and the earlier stop of the shows helps me get home that much earlier.

KK's Slayer, Mastodon @ LA FORUM
Got last minute free tix but couldn't line up anybody on short notice so wifey took pity on me, with the condition no LOG (we saw them open for Megascab and she was not a fan)
We came in a little ways into KK's Slayer set and some of the people that worked there were headbanging behind the counter, pretty awesome. KK Slayer/Death Angel singer dood can WAIL, holy crap!! Knew it was him from outside the Forum. Whole band is killing it, that's for sure. Great, but short, set.
Mastodon is mindblowing. They play in some weird ass time signatures, it's like watching a Tool/Gojira mash up or something, and heavy as F*CK. I am not sure how their drummer does that for multiple nights on tour, beast mode x10!!
Tried to talk the wife into staying for a few LOG songs, but she wasn't having it so off we went, it was pretty awesome to leave the parking lot in 30 seconds for a change!
I think I had a DJ Will sighting, walked right past our seats, sure looked like him

^ I’ve seen lots of shows at City Winery in NYC. It’s a huge space but the table lay out sucks. Super cramped. They put 4 people at a table for 2! You gotta choose your seats carefully and buy tickets early.
The food is decent though. And the place itself is great. Right near the water too which is nice.

How was Javier?
I used to work for a band (True Believers) he and his brother, Alejandro were in.
Their niece (Sheila E.) played @ the DNC last night.
That was probably ketchup on his ear.

Cool to see another OURS fan. I've been a huge fan since Distorted Lullabies, saw them too many times to count over the years. However, I've lost interest in them/Jimmy Gnecco, his new music sucks hard, and I've stopped going to any shows even though he's played like 30 min from me.kingbrian74 wrote: ↑Wed Aug 21, 2024 5:55 am Last show was Jimmy G'Necco from Ours doing an acoustic show at the City Winery in Boston. FFS, that's not a rock show, just get yrself a (tobacco) pipe and slippers and sit at home in your rocking chair shouting at local kids to get off your lawn.tooth wrote: ↑Thu Aug 22, 2024 5:27 amAccurate review, I go fairly often.kingbrian74 wrote: ↑Wed Aug 21, 2024 11:14 am
It's okay. I don't love it there, but for what it is, it is decent.
The big room has more rock shows, but it is filled with tables so there is no room to stand.
