Songs that you originally thought were by a different band
When I first heard "Talk Dirty To Me" on the radio I thought it was Black n' Blue. Cut me some slack I was only 12 at the time

I dig Heaven's Edge (no way out) and was very surprised to find out it was Tesla. Had no clue who it might have been, but definitely dig the tune

I just learned something new today
Re: Songs that you originally thought were by a different band
First tiem I heard Queensrhyche I thought it was Iron Maiden. I think the song was The Lady Wore Black. Bruce Dickinson was the only guy I had heard who sang anything like that before.
Re: Songs that you originally thought were by a different band
I thought Edge of Seventeen was sung by Fleetwood Mac. I only found out a month ago that I was wrong.

Thought "Long Cool Woman in a Black Dress" was CCR, "I can Help" was Ringo (he covered it later), and I thought "I've Seen All Good People" and "Suite Judy Blue Eyes" were by the same band.

This might be hard to believe, but the first time I heard Smells Like Teen Spirit on the radio, I thought it was...
... wait for it...
Metallica.
Holy shit. WHAT THE FUCK. I have never had less doubt about anything else that didn't involve the faithfulness of a woman.
Okay, add that one to my list.

I don't know if this counts, but when I first heard Coverdale/Page I thought Jimmy Page must be the singer in Led Zeppelin because the singer sounded so much like Robert Plant to me.
