First tiem I heard Queensrhyche I thought it was Iron Maiden. I think the song was The Lady Wore Black. Bruce Dickinson was the only guy I had heard who sang anything like that before.

Thought "Long Cool Woman in a Black Dress" was CCR, "I can Help" was Ringo (he covered it later), and I thought "I've Seen All Good People" and "Suite Judy Blue Eyes" were by the same band.

Up until a couple of years ago, I always thought that the Tommy Tutone song "Jenny 8675309" was the Greg Kihn Band.

When I fist heard them, I thought "And Fools Shine On" was Soundgarden and "That Don't Satisfy Me" was the Black Crowes.
Both are by Brother Cane.

Holy shit. WHAT THE FUCK. I have never had less doubt about anything else that didn't involve the faithfulness of a woman.
Okay, add that one to my list.

I don't know if this counts, but when I first heard Coverdale/Page I thought Jimmy Page must be the singer in Led Zeppelin because the singer sounded so much like Robert Plant to me.
