What Ticketmaster Doesn't Want You To Know
A good video that really details how TM got to be so powerful and fucked us all.

Just one more reason to vote blue.

Re: What Ticketmaster Doesn't Want You To Know
Voting with your wallet is better. I no longer buy advance tickets to shows...I buy them the week of the show from people who can't go, at a discount.
Re: What Ticketmaster Doesn't Want You To Know
I continue to be just amazed at the balls of this company. They do whatever they want, charge random fees, dynamic pricing, forcing/buying out the competition. Whatever the F*ck they want.
They get called out, investigations...then they apologize, pay a fine. They proceed to change not one damn thing....nothing.
This Oasis thing is one of the slimiest things they have done. You are lucky enough to get tickets in your cart. they you go to check out, and the price has gone from 100 to 600 bucks, cause of "high demand".
They are gonna say sorry, pay a huge fine, then make it up in 2 weeks by quietly upping the "service fees" on hundreds of other smaller shows.

Re: What Ticketmaster Doesn't Want You To Know
Ticketmaster doesn’t care what you know or don’t know. Their financial model isn’t built on everyone buying advance tickets at regular price… it’s built on an average comprised of some people buying at regular price, some buying at a deep discount the week of the show, and several “stops” in between. It’s also built upon fees from resales, and cuts of merch and concession sales in venues they own. The only way they care is if NOBODY buys until the week of the show, which will never happen, because there’s always diehards who need to buy first, as well as stupid people who haven’t figured out how dynamic pricing can work to your advantage.

Holy shit, is this true? (Or are you just referring to the "fees" that show up in the end?)

They have done a fantastic job of eliminating the evil scalpers , to save us all from over priced good seats.
If i was willing to camp out in line , i had a 100% chance of getting in the first 5 rows for the same price as one by the roof. Now i pay scalpers prices for tickets by the roof. This is why i no longer bother with arena shows. It’s just a scam.

As others have said, I have cut back on shows from slim to none, especially since you can check out what you want on YouTube anytime. Sure, it isn't the same as being there live, but it also doesn't cost me several hundred dollars for two tickets for garbage seats. The last tickets I purchased outright were for Dorothy and DIrty Honey. Small club show through a non-TM retailer. $22/ticket. If you want to see the big acts, it isn't worth it to me.
Re: What Ticketmaster Doesn't Want You To Know
It's true. People were in the e-queue for tickets at a certain price, but when they got to the checkout it had more than doubled.Mister Freeze wrote: ↑Sat Sep 07, 2024 7:38 am

The brothers are playing innocent, but if you believe that I've got a bridge at a bargain price...

Two of the cheapest big shows I saw were Priest and Whitesnake, shortly after the Bataclan attacks. People were afraid to go to big scary Brussels, practically begging to take the tickets out of their hands.Psychobolia.com wrote: ↑Sat Sep 07, 2024 4:21 am Voting with your wallet is better. That's exactly what I do. A benefit of the new system is that with electronic tickets, they can change hands pretty easily. That makes selling on week or even day of show more doable. Good stuff can almost always be had. We got 3rd row seats to Yes (ARW) in 2016 for a really good price 3 days before the show. My 80s self was thrilled with that, and my then-young son got a superb experience.Psychobolia.com wrote: ↑Sat Sep 07, 2024 4:21 am Voting with your wallet is better. There's one other way to deal with this: essentially, stadium shows tend to suck. Go to shows in theaters and clubs. The experience and cost is almost always better.

Re: What Ticketmaster Doesn't Want You To Know
Is even going to a show any more worth the cost to see most bands just mime to backing tracks? Pay 300 bucks for a pair of tickets for shit seats, knowing they are probably not even playing live???
As time marches on, the fake concerts are getting worse and worse. Just not worth it any more. At least the big shows. Of course there are always a few exceptions. There have to be some bands that refuse to play to backing tracks, and do every thing live.
Reminds me of an really old commercial, is is live, or is it memorex.

I'm finding it difficult to masturbate to this. I'm trying, I just have so little to work with...

Re: What Ticketmaster Doesn't Want You To Know
^^^ The Sphere in Vegas is now showing a "movie" version of the U2 residency. I was there on opening night Thursday. I had to remind myself a few times that I wasn't actually watching a real concert. The technology is ridiculously good. Way better than any hologram bullshit.
Anyway ... the future of concerts will be a fine line between what's real and what isn't. Much more than it already is right now.

You're missing the point. The Justice Department is currently suing TM/LN which very likely will end with them being broken into separate companies.Black Mamba wrote: ↑Sun Sep 08, 2024 7:39 am Ticketmaster has been Ticketbastard across both red and blue presidents. And by the way, the video says that Obama was the one who allowed the merger with LN.
If you vote in a GOP administration, this almost certainly will not happen.

Do the backing tracks really bother people that much?tym wrote: ↑Sun Sep 08, 2024 8:26 am Is even going to a show any more worth the cost to see most bands just mime to backing tracks? Pay 300 bucks for a pair of tickets for shit seats, knowing they are probably not even playing live???

The last time I saw KISS was in 2019. Were they lip syncing then? If they were it didn't bother me since they put on such a good show.
Same with Motley...the backing tracks don't bother me.
The ticket prices themselves are a killer though. LIke you said, 300 bucks for shit seats! That's gotta stop. I don't know if it will but I would love to see ticket prices go down. They have been out of hand the past couple of years.
However I guess if you've got bad seats way in the back the lip syncing would be less noticeable though!
