Saw Tommy Stinson do a solo show during GnR downtime. Excellent as usual but he insisted on bringing up his girlfriend (who then became his wife) to play stupid fucking finger cymbals and sing backup. She was absolutely superfluous to the show, but you could tell she thought she was absolutely crucial to the night’s proceedings. Tommy was obviously in that early “I’m in love” phase. You could smell the oncoming disaster from a mile away. Smash cut to a couple of years later and she’s taking half of his GnR money.

That was a total Jeanine Pettibone situation and I was surprised that the music press didn't make more of it at the time. With hindsight they obviously wanted to keep Max on-side. As the main songwriter, they must have known he'd start something else, and pissing off his all-powerful wife wouldn't help with future stories.
