First Concert: KISS/Judas Priest 1979 - I had gone to tons of shows of 50’s/60’s bands that my parents were into, you name it I probably saw it, but KISS was the first one where it was my favorite band.

Last Concert: Band that shall not be named & Enuff Znuff. Fun show.

Worst Concert: Britney Fox. I’ve saw shows that were worse, but BF was the most disappointing because I really liked the album. I just thought they were lame old guys trying to act cool. When people talk about how the hairband era needed to end, I think about that show as the one where I started to think it had started to run it’s course.

Loudest Concert: Yngwie - dude plays WAY too loud. That’s why I stopped going to see him.

Best Concert: Manic Street Preachers at millennium stadium in London.


Seen the Most: KISS or Faster Pussycat. I stopped keeping track of all the shows I’ve gone to back in the 90’s. FP probably edges out Kiss since they tour so much.

Happy I Got To See: Tori Amos in a very small club at the start of the Little Earthquakes tour. Definitely one of the best shows I’ve been to.

How was that?

Roth solo '94: I remember liking it in generally. Dave was starting to do that strained high note thing that tI just don't like much, but he generally sounded good. In terms of rhythm and singing in the right spots, he was better than on Tokyo Dome by leaps and bounds. His band was competent, and they really did Van Halen pretty well except not really having the right tone on guitar and drums. Dave was super-high energy and very funny. Not as over-the-top as he comes across today. The new songs from YFLM came across well to me, especially "Experience." I wish he'd done "Sunburn." My biggest disappointment was that there were almost no songs from EEAS or Skyscraper, but that might reflect that no one else can really do Vai's sound. If memory serves, the band was Rocket Richotte, James Lomenzo, and Ray Luzier.

Seen the Most: Shihad

Kinda surprised about this dude, considering Shihad's reputation for volume. They were loud as balls the 3 or 4 times I've seen them. I take your word for it, though.

Shihad definitely up there, especially in the Killjoy era.

Happy I Got To See: Primus in 1987. Still fresh and raw before their major label release.

Saw Stevie in the In-Step tour at the Sunrise Musical Theater when I was around 15. My best friend's dad took us he and I, which looking back was pretty cool that he took his son and his friend, opposed to his drunk friends. I honestly don't remember much, other than it being LOUD, people passing joints around, and Stevie blowing up an amp. As in it smoked and they had to bring another amp. I do recall one of the "King" brothers opening. Still knowing I went and having vague memories is pretty cool.

The first time I ever saw or heard of him I was flipping through the channels one night as a kid, a few years into learning guitar, and came across that first Austin City Limits performance he did. Even then I thought he was a great and needed kick in the ass for blues guitar.

Small venue in Louisville that was basically a rather large dance floor with a stage at the end. It's now called Bourbon Hall.

The first time I ever saw or heard of him I was flipping through the channels one night as a kid, a few years into learning guitar, and came across that first Austin City Limits performance he did. Even then I thought he was a great and needed kick in the ass for blues guitar.

Don't remember that actual first time, but for me it was Live at the Mocambo which captured a small intimate show perfectly. Stevie, Chris & Tommy, the crowd, etc...Still one of my favorite concert videos.

Worst Concert: worst performance from a name band was Red Hot Chili Peppers, Leeds Festival 1999. Dullest, most tedious fucking thing I've ever witnessed.
Loudest Concert: Manowar, Manchester Apollo 1987. You could see the air vibrating. Insanely loud.
Best Concert: Iggy Pop, Leeds T&C 1993. Mad old bastard was in the crowd by the second song.
Seen the Most: either the Wildhearts or the Damned. Lost count of both.
Most Surprising: Morrissey. Never liked the cunt, but saw him in 2004 and he put a hell of a show on.

Not that they were ever known for tasty leads, but the guy Tom brought in (Oliver Amberg) might just be the worst lead guitarist ever in a known metal band.

Don't know if you saw them but around the same time Warlock had hired a new guitarist, Tommy Bolan. Saw them opening for Dio and Bolan sucked. He played fast and looked good onstage but what he played was atrocious. Random noise that made Vinnie Vincent sound restrained and Chris Holmes tasteful.
