I gave it another lesson this afternoon. I wish Doc and Marty were here to take me back to yesterday when I hadn’t heard it for a second time.

The lyrics are funny to me because Motley used to be like "The kids are misunderstood. They just want power to the music in the streets."

Now they're like "The kids get mad at me for being stupid and out of touch so they need to shut up, shut up."

At the beginning, you just do it, but once a band hits, you are conscious of having to BE that band, and fucks people up. You get people trying too hard to do more of their classic stuff and failing, or you get people trying too hard NOT to repeat themselves and putting out shit nobody wants.

I honestly think drugs help a lot, as bands who are fucked up don't get as as self conscious, so you get those 6 album runs like VH or Sabbath. The second somebody starts getting sober, it is all over, because sobriety means examining your whole everything, and magic does not hold up under scrutiny.
You just put into words exactly what I've always thought about this topic, but never have been able to articulate it clearly. Very well said my friend.

Totally. I don't care if you're a multiplatinum act or in a band with your high school friends. The drive, chemistry and inspiration has a shelf life. Once it's gone, it's gone.

Next thing you know, you're Metallica sitting around with a notebook trying to write lyrics by committee and spark motivation that isn't there while the drummer gets bored with the main songwriter's "stock" guitar riffs.

It's why Guns n' Rose will never release anything again that sounds like it belongs on Appetite and why Motley Crue hasn't been on the same page since the Corabi album.

Feels like Motley don't have a signature sound any more, there's nothing identifiable as them until the vocals start which are, of course, horrible. The songwriting of Cancelled is all over the place, disconnected ideas and undeveloped, repetitive attempts at hooks that get old fast. Is that even Tommy playing? It sounds too synthetic and controlled. No energy or balls.

The theme of the song would be a good comeback for an artist who actually was cancelled and wanted to slap back with a statement. However, no one cares what the members of Motley Crue say or do so being cancelled doesn't apply to them.

Weird that the lyrics mention the Daily Mail which is a right wing UK newspaper.

"Daily Mail is such a handful / Take a shot, throw a hand grenade / Monkeys on the internet got it made / ....Speak your mind you might get cancelled / Call me trash, burn down my castle"

Embarrassing.

I like the second comment, "I miss the 80's crue my dad grew me up to...". That band doesn't exist any more. Crue started because of an ad for a loud obnoxious guitar player who became part of their DNA and has not utilized for years.

Motley was never that good and the band were always trend chasing whores.

Lars doesn’t play a melodic instrument and he is as big of a chasing whore as Nikki is. His opinion means nothing. If Metallica should have replaced someone years ago, it was Lars.

GNR were always overrated and a one trick pony of sorts. I’ve found Slash’s solo and side projects far more interesting, even VR.

Many legacy acts have continued to release solid and respectable albums in their golden years.

Wow. One person actually voted "Best Motley song OF ALL TIME".

Let me recommend one album to you. Just one. "Decade of Decadence".
If you don't find *one* song there that's better than Cancelled, get off my Sludge!

Yeah, they had lots of filler even in the 80s. But if DoD was a studio album it would be an all time classic.

I wouldn't say the best song since Hooligan's Holiday, but I also like it.

Motley could come out with Kickstart My Heart today and the bitter people here would hate it.

If Motley released Bad Boy Boogie today we would lose our shit and be so excited. A weaker track from the 80s is miles better than the rubbish they have put out recently.

Ha! I agree with POM. If they released “BBB” or “Sumthin’ for Nuthin’” tomorrow, everyone would be like “Holy cow, they’re back!”

“Raise Your Hands to Rock” would be called their best single since “Primal Scream.”

Call “Cancelled” what it is—rap rock. It’s 2001 bullshit. They’re living in the past, it’s just the wrong past!
