Bret Michaels - "Show Me Your Hits: A Salute To Poison"
Weirdest cash-grab I've ever heard. I listened to this at the gym on a whim assuming it was gonna be inferior re-recordings of his hits to use for licensing so he gets a bigger cut of profit (or, as it's now known, "Taylor's version"), but it wasn't even close to that. He did something far more interesting, and way, way more bizarre. Here's a rundown:
1) Look What the Cat Dragged In - this is a new arrangement and is a scream-o/nu-metal track. That's right, Bret Michaels doing scream-o vocals. It's wild and you gotta hear it.
2) Talk Dirty To Me - this is a punk version of the pop-metal classic. Worth a listen.
3) Fallen Angel - new version of Fallen Angel sounds like when 70s Rolling Stones did country. Nice tune.
4) Something To Believe In - just a stripped down version. Nothing too interesting here.
5) Nothin But a Good Time - not sure how to explain this. It's looser than the original, almost more of a 70s glam vibe than the original classic. Interesting re-take.
6) I Want Action - industrial version of the classic tune. I hate it. But you need to listen to it.
7) Unskinny Bop - guest vocals by Pauly Shore. Wildly offensive lyrics. Not funny. Will listen a million more times because it's a wild take.
Stand - stripped down version. nothing too interesting.
9) So Tell Me Why - one of my favorite Poison songs, but this feels like an inferior re-recording without doing anything interesting to the song.
10) Doin' As I Seen On My TV - not a song I'm super familiar with (I always skip it when I listen to Crack A Smile) but it's fine here. Nothing wildly out of place about it.
11) Every Rose Has Its Thorn - inferior solo acoustic version
I urge you to take a listen if you're a Poison fan; I was certainly entertained and it made my treadmill session fly by.

Many of those songs weren't hits.

Yeah not supporting Bert by even listening to this. Could have been a cool Poison CD though.

Sounds cool, but it's a missed opportunity to have a chick with huge gazongas on the cover.

Re: Bret Michaels - "Show Me Your Hits: A Salute To Poison"
I'd definitely heard of this but never listened to it until now.
That Limp Bizkit-style "Cat Dragged" is fucking CRAZY.
"Talk Dirty" is terrible. What did punk do to deserve this?
In both cases, it really highlights how good the original songs are. If that's the point being made here then I say well done.
So far, I like this a lot more than the Bon Jovi "reimagined" album.

Well, that was...something.
During and after every song, I heard Torbin Ulrich say "delete that."

Unskinny Bop is the worst thing my ears have ever heard! Having Pauly Shore was an incredibly horrible idea.

We had a thread about this a while back - it's a really bad scam because, when you look at the packaging, it looks like a run of the mill greatest hits package.
Between the numetal stuff and Pauly Shore, Bret should be thrown in prison for this.
I mean, it's on fucking vinyl.

Bert Miracles did a tribute album to himself. Not even Gene Simmons is so shameless.

Re: Bret Michaels - "Show Me Your Hits: A Salute To Poison"
This album is OLD! It actually came out at least 20 years ago when Deadline/Cleopatra was doing tribute records left and right. I guess Bret decided he would do it himself.
I haven't listened to it in ages but I recall hating it except for the new version of Fallen Angel.
I think there WAS another tribute though with Stevie singing LWTCDI and another guy named Steve singing a couple songs too.

Re: Bret Michaels - "Show Me Your Hits: A Salute To Poison"
I never knew about this....but I'm not a huge Poison fan.
I listened to about 5 songs yesterday while driving. It was interesting and I didn't HATE it but I doubt I'll ever listen to it again.
I'll listen to the rest of songs before Stand. I don't care about Stand or the songs after it.
I can understand how people who paid for this would be pissed if they thought it was Poison songs performed the classic way. The purple and black vinyl looks cool as hell!

Not to ruin the fun….but for those that don’t know, that is not the original packaging. This originally came out in 1999 and that is not Bret screaming on LWTCDI. It’s slaves on dope.
Terrible but fun record.
