They had quite a few good songs. Of course, "Sultans of Swing" and "Money For Nothing" are classics. but "Telegraph Road" and "Tunnel of Love" are long blues masterpieces as well. My dad had On Every Street on cassette when it first came out as well, and that one has "Calling Elvis", which is highly underrated. Not to mention their other great tunes: "Lady Writer", "Skateaway", "So Far Away", "Walk of Life", etc. They were great when they were on.

"Telegraph Road" the tension and build-up to the explosion at the end is expertly done.

The Brothers in Arms album is a stone cold classic. The title song is hauntingly beautiful.

I haven’t checked out their discography enough to comment. I agree with the production on BiA and that Mark is an underrated guitarist who wrote some great songs. I dismissed them when I first heard and saw MfN on MTV but I soon ate my words. Mark is awesome

I was watching a shitty Brandon Lee movie years ago and the theme song was a really band Dire Straits ripoff.

Then I saw in the credits It was written and performed by David Knopfler.

Aside from his Dire Straits releases and his solo albums, Mark Knopfler has a couple of soundtrack albums from the early 80s worth checking out: Local Hero and Cal. Same for his Notting Hillbillies side project album.

Not sure if it's the song or the way it was presented but Brothers In Arms on Miami Vice at the end of the episode is probably my favorite scene of the series as the song slowly builds as Crocket And Tubbs are driving on their way in the middle of the night to meet the cop who has lost his mind.

I'm not a musician but I love the drumming on The Alchemy Live album, Williams was in the zone that night.

When Roy Bittan plays his fingers to the bone at the end of Tunnel of Love and gives the song a Springsteen wibe it's absolutely fantastic!!
