I saw them live once. They were alright.

Some good tunes here, some good tunes there. They were no Cinderella, Poison or Skid Row.

"""""""""""""""Typical overrated Metal Sludge band. If they'd have sold millions and had been a success people here would be trashing then.""""""""""""""

This is pretty spot on.

Any band that had real success, and sold multiple millions... ends up getting trashed. Kiss, Crue, Poison, GnR, Bon Jovi, etc...

Then the bands who fell short, often get glorified as underrated. Kix is def 1 of those bands.

Kix are exactly where they should have been... middle of the pack... better than the lower tier, but they lacked the real punch that the Platinum artists had.

I recall plenty of "All original line-up" comments coming from their fans as well when they made the comeback in the 2000's, and how great they sound live... but, let's note, they played plenty of shows over the years with 2 or 3 OG members, and as good as they sound, they have absolutely used and ran tracks for years. Let's be sure to say "to enhance" the sound, etc...

It don't matter if it's Keyboards, various Effects, the big "Hey Hey" chants in the Chorus that Chalfant was hitting sample pads for, etc... they used tracks. #facts

I also think it's arrogant when select bands from the era make sure to try and distance themselves from the others; "We were never a hair band" or "We weren't worried about girls or drugs" and the passive / aggressive dissing from select individuals in the groups, but are for sure "booked" on EVERY related "Hair Band" or "80's Glam Rock" package.

Whiteman: "KIX Frontman Steve Whiteman - ""We hated the fact that we got lumped in with that hair metal shit; that was definitely not us. We were around way before that crap ever got popular. Unfortunately, with the age of MTV, we all got played together and we got lumped into that shit." - well, guess what Steve, you WERE a hair metal band, the same way the rest of us were.

> https://bravewords.com/news/kix-frontma ... metal-shit

If you hated being lumped in with, then why continue to play shows with all of the same bands?

Kix were a great band, but I have heard Steve take a few swipes along the way at others (like the link shared above)... kind of like Tramp did last week in that article on BM saying "'The Last Wave Of The '80s Bands Were A Complete Joke'", well, to be fair Mike... we're guessing Van Halen and Motley Crue may have felt the same way about White Lion.

Many of these bands (guys) seem to think they are or were different than the others... or better... ala Bach in his dissing of Poison "Do you think Skid Row sounds like Poison?"

No, we don't... but we also don't think Skid Row sounds like Iron Maiden, Metallica, Judas Priest or Pantera... who Bach seemed to worship.

Bach was as much of a Glam Bitch as Bret Michaels was... and that too, is all Fact! A better singer, sure... but still a Glam Rocker!

Here is that infamous clip... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s1pSnKEk24E&t=56s

thanks for the replies. I listened to more of their stuff other than hit songs and live songs everyone knows. I think they were underrated a bit, but compared to their 80s competition they were probably where they should have been. Steve Whiteman is a great singer but didn't have the looks of bret, vince, axl etc.... when it was so important. the other guys looked cool but not a band women would like due to looks. The guitar playing was very aerosomith, stones, ac/dc 70s rock/hard rock. They weren't thought of as great players with tapping and technical playing when that was looked at as a necessity. They had a good career and i'm glad they got some props the last 20 years when they reunited w/the metal show and their documentary on their newest album etc... definitely a good rock band

They are the most overrated band at Sludge. Zero decent tunes.

I like Wednesday 13 (the band), but Wednesday 13 (the fan) is really shitting the bed today.

No, that would be Vain or Bang Tango. Kix's worst song is better than anything Davy or Joe croaked out.

Saw Kix live once, it was fine. I thought Whitman was a goofy mother fucker on stage, and this was late in their career. There were times when his stage banter was cringey, I just felt bad for him.

They had some good songs, they were a solid "C" band from the era.

Would they make $900 playing the Troubadour in 1994?

It's absolutely idiotic to contend Zep weren't A-listers in the 1970s.

No. No one really knew of them until Sludge. They had a minor hit, but no one knew who played it.

Could they fill an amphitheater at their peak? If not, they were C level at the time. HB was still trying to promote them in '91, but they couldn't go Gold.

I liked a couple songs but I agree. Poison were a way better band than those guys. Not to mention it sounded like they named themselves after a cereal.

The second, third and I’ll even say fourth tier bands were way better. I’ll throw on LA Guns before I ever throw on Kix

Oh bullshit!
They had several singles from Blow My Fuse in 1988-89. Which by the way, is a fantastic album.

CEO is correct. Blow My Fuse, Cold Blood, don't close your eyes big singles, album went platinum in 2000, but gold like la guns and faster pussycat etc.... in the day. 2 other great singles: girl money, same jane. those are 5 right there. I could add a few others but keeping it at that. CEO is right. They were a really good band; they were great live which all other bands said so pretty much. poison got ideas from them, jon bon jovi said steve whiteman best frontman he'd ever seen when he saw them at hammerjacks etc...

Cold Blood is one of the best tunes of the era. They're solid but don't have a deep catalog. Early stuff is super poppy. Recent stuff lacks hook.
