Part of it was the dividing line many fans had during that time. Many thrashers felt that you couldn't like poppy Rock and be a REAL Metal fan. Riki said he liked a variety of bands and then changed his style of dress. Certain styles start out as somewhat rebellious and then create rules for people to follow.

No. Riki was nothing but a typical, soulless, trend following, shape shifting poser from Hollywood.

He was a Faster Pussycat fan but hated Trixter? Ok Riki. Yeah buddy

Faster Pussycat had a different style than Trixter. Of course he has to be nice to Trixter on the show.

They were both lower tier bands. Riki sealed his fate out of the gate with his ridiculous appearance in
The Metal Years. The guy is a joke. He has no room pointing fingers at any 80s band.

What was ridiculous about it? He was drinking a beer and talking about slutty chicks. Probably 21, 22 years old? Maybe I need to pay closer attention but he just seemed like a normal-ish rocker dude.

Actually, I watched Decline 2 fairly recently and noted how so many of the participants didn't seem stupid so much as just young. And they all lived in this weird world where everything revolves around playing gigs. Reminds me of how the Minutemen said their world was two things: Gigs and flyers.

If you stuck a camera in my face at 21, at a club, beer in my hand, I would've made Riki Rachtman look like Slavoj Zizek.

We GREATLY overestimate how cool we were at that age.

For one, I felt he only got the job at MTV because of his friendship with Taime and his appearance in that movie.

Two, he went from glam poser, Hollywood hairband boy to Mr Alternative Metal guy and cried in his cereal
to Spin Magazine in the 90s that he got labeled as a glam metal or metal guy when metal wasn’t cool.

Three, for me, he was one of many who proved critics of the genre correct. He
was nothing but a shapeshifting poser.

Four, he’s nothing but a poser.

Knock Eddie Trunk all you want. He has always been a supporter and promoter
of 80s rock. It didn’t matter if it was Ratt, Ace Frehley or Metallica. He never gave
a shit about the latest trend or any of that like Riki did.

Slavoj Žižek mentioned in the same sentence as Rikki Rachtman? Now I've seen it all.

Only on Sludge.

This applies to grunge and thrash even more than hair metal. All thrash bands pretty much looked the same except Anthrax with their colorful shorts and maybe Slayer with their "Priest meets Venom" costumes.

I remember teenage Thrash fans were some of the biggest music snobs in the late 80s and early 90s. My older brother's friend said I should get into Metal and not that pretty boy glam shit...hehe.

''sealed his fate''? That's a bit dramatic, wouldn't you say?

It's absolutely idiotic to contend Zep weren't A-listers in the 1970s.

It's right up there with Napoleon Bonaparte's invasion of Russia, as far as sealing one's fate goes.

Riki said he was in a Punk band in HS. Is he lying? Was he pretending to like Punk? Could he like Punk, Sleaze Rock, and Thrash Metal at the same time?

Thrash fans were the biggest douchebags ever. But when you look at guys like Dave Mustaine, Scott Ian
and Lars Ulrich, le douche doesn’t fall far from the dispensers.

No more dramatic than Riki in the mid 90s crying in his Cheerios to Spin Magazine that he got “labeled”
an 80s glam metal guy.

Does he have any room talking shit about other bands when his bros
were Faster Pussycat? Not exactly the most groundbreaking, original band
out there.
