Knew it was coming eventually, he was ill for a while. Anyone have him in the death pool?

Not at the moment, but considering his health issues, yeah, we should have put him there. RIP, Paul…Black Stuff wrote: ↑Mon Oct 21, 2024 6:57 am Knew it was coming eventually, he was ill for a while. Anyone have him in the death pool?

Re: Ex-IRON MAIDEN Singer PAUL DI'ANNO Dead At 66
I have been waiting for this to be honest. He's like Ozzy, outlived all expectations. But that Poland festival video was just sad and here's what someone who was there, at his last show, wrote: "On the one hand, I understand, because lately a lot of health problems. On the other hand: the concert in Poland was a joke. Paul at the meet and greet was so drunk that people were taking pictures with a corpse - he was downright unconscious. On stage it was no better."
He didn't care about his health or anything else it seems. Not even his religion.
Anyway, RIP. Killers is a great album, he was nice enough when I met him in the 90s before a club show - but unfortunately never saw him live. We were turned away from said club show as it was full hours before he went on stage.

Not surprising considering his health conditions

Touring like this was never going to end well.
Re: Ex-IRON MAIDEN Singer PAUL DI'ANNO Dead At 66
As much as I love all the Maiden stuff, even the Blaze years, the first 2 are still the best, RIP.

Was he known to be a drunk? I didn’t follow him at all.Love_Industry wrote: ↑Mon Oct 21, 2024 7:56 amI have been waiting for this to be honest. He's like Ozzy, outlived all expectations. RIP.
Paul was the only one in Iron Maiden who had an edge. He was always up for a pint or ten in the pub, glassing a bloke inside, or getting into a knife fight outside... Not like the other pussies who wanted him gone because he wasn't down with playing canasta on the tour bus.

I'm listing to 'Book of the Beast' now and quite pleasantly surprised.
He sounds great to me, sometimes reminds me of John Bush a bit.
I had to check it didn't switch to some Pantera deep cut on 'Die By The Gun'. Nope, it's him.
This sh*t is heavy as f*ck, I like it!!

Last two songs from his last show:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=70AJlP6VpSw
Comes out for the encore and apologizes and says his voice is shot, berates the sound guy for a few minutes and tells everyone to get their money back.
https://youtu.be/uyxLKFDZdTA?si=VoMIjsD9Lbc4EFg6
Finishes his last song ever by hitting one last high note, apologizing, tossing the mic on the ground while gesturing for someone to hurry and wheel him the fuck out of there.
He was not in great shape.
I can't believe people are saying they're surprised by this or that they didn't expect it.

I live my life much more healthily, and should have enough $ that when i'm at death's door I wont have to work...... however, being less than 2 months from death and rocking out to a rabid crowd doing Running Free is... well, theres something badass about it. I sorta hope I rock some faces that close to the end.aznsquirt wrote: ↑Mon Oct 21, 2024 5:40 pm Last two songs from his last show:

^You might get your dream soon singing Lunch Box
Retirement seems like a scam- doing things with other old people- mostly talking about upcoming hospital visits
I still remember buying first 2 Maiden CDs at Tower and being so disappointed. First Maiden CDs I bought was the live one
If my time is up before Mike Tramp show this weekend I’m ok with that. Topless maid (female) Thursday

They didn't grab me immediately, as NOTB was my Maiden gateway drug, but over time I came to appreciate the first two albums as spectactular. Killers is fn awesome songwriting and attitude.
As good as NOTB was (and Piece of Mind), Maiden just never had that street punky aggressive feel again.

It's a potpourri of choices. Heavy historic drinker and drug user with a history of serious sepsis in both his leg and apparently his lung. And he was 66.
Not surprising.
Re: Ex-IRON MAIDEN Singer PAUL DI'ANNO Dead At 66
If you get the same 61 year-old, 4' 8" Nicaraguan lady (Renata) that I got, tell her I said 'hola!'.

Re: Ex-IRON MAIDEN Singer PAUL DI'ANNO Dead At 66
well, that's not entirely true. Sepsis is very serious condition that can cause long-term damage to organs and dramatically increase cardiovascular risk (it's called post-sepsis syndrome).BernieTaupson wrote: ↑Tue Oct 22, 2024 4:39 am Yeah but you don’t just suddenly drop dead from that at your house. Wonder if he had a fall or took himself out. If he died suddenly it may have been a heart attack I guess.
I'm not a doctor, so someone can correct me, but if it was a heart attack or cardiovascular event, connecting that to sepsis (and/or long-term drug use) is not a stretch.
Bottom-line: Mr. Di'anno's body had many more miles on it than your normal 66 year-old (and sadly, people -- men in particular -- drop dead at and before 66 years old all the time...)

Sepsis is one of the most dangerous things to have. If you don't get to an emergency room quickly you're going to die and it will be with a lot of pain.BernieTaupson wrote: ↑Tue Oct 22, 2024 4:39 am Yeah but you don’t just suddenly drop dead from that at your house. They also looked a lot cooler in the leather jackets like a metal ramones, than with that bullshit stripy spandex stagewear they fully embraced by Piece of Mind.veritas wrote: ↑Tue Oct 22, 2024 4:00 am They didn't grab me immediately, as NOTB was my Maiden gateway drug, but over time I came to appreciate the first two albums as spectactular. Killers is their best album. They did great things with Bruce and Nicko, don't get me wrong, but if I have to pick one Iron Maiden album to listen to, it's Killers.

Nothing worse at Maiden show .. Bruce is forced to sing songs from first 2 Maiden cds…Sanctuary is garbage whoever sings it
Sucks for Bruce he deserves nice 25 year old (female) topless maid for life. Light maid service does come in handy- who the hell wants to vacuum#bringyourdaughter..totheslaughter

Have you heard the rest of the debut album? Sanctuary may be the best song on there. There are three good songs on it, the other two are Remember Tomorrow and Running Free.LAglamrocker wrote: ↑Tue Oct 22, 2024 9:49 am Nothing worse at Maiden show .. The song Iron Maiden blows, Charlotte the Harlot too and Phantom of the Opera is an average tune that is more overrated than Victim of Changes.
Massive improvement to Killers, it's as if someone else wrote the songs. Maybe it was, someone over at Ironmaidenfans or whatever claims the credits should be like this:
Prowler by Dennis Willcock, Steve Harris, Dave Sullivan & Terry Rance
Running Free by Paul Dianno, Steve Harris “drum pattern” by Doug Sampson
Phantom Of The Opera by Dennis Willcock, Terry Wapram, Tony Moore, Barry Purkis, Harris
Transylvania by Willcock, vocals removed. Harris, Sullivan, Rance.
Strange World by Paul Day, uncredited, Dave Sullivan, Steve Harris, Terry Rance and Ron Matthews,
Charlotte The Harlot by Dave Murray and Dennis Willcock
Iron Maiden by Harris, Sullivan, Rance, Willcock
Sanctuary by Sawyer
The poster didn't list Remember Tomorrow but Harris, DiAnno sounds reasonable. It (and Running Free) was never played live before 1979, when Paul was in the band.
The other songs were played live since 76 and 77.

Anyone ever read his autobiography? I had a cheap paperback version that I gave an away a few years ago. I recall it being mainly “I don’t regret being kicked out of Maiden cuz I was going to quit anyway” followed by a list of a lifetime of bad decisions.
I like how one reviewer put it: “Every story goes basically one of 2 ways: either it ends up with him banging some groupie or he ends up getting into a fight with someone.”
Yeah, it’s not good.
I just bought another copy on Amazon for 16 bucks.

Running Free and Sanctuary are two of the weakest songs on the first 2 albums. Boringly derivative Rock n Roll shit. If you like that crap over IM and Phantom (totally original songs that defined their sound) you aren’t really an Iron Maiden fan at all and should probably just listen to Motörhead or Fastway or something like that.Love_Industry wrote: ↑Tue Oct 22, 2024 11:10 amHave you heard the rest of the debut album?
