Rainbow Rising
Both Ronnie James Dio and Ritchie Blackmore's finest hour. Sure, it has some stiff competition. Blackmore is more famous for Deep Purple and some of their classic albums.
But Rising for my ears is both at their peaks. I think this word is used too often but Stargazer really is an epic song.
This album was actually voted as the number 1 heavy metal album of all time in Kerrang back in 81.
Rainbow seem a bit forgotten in the metal/hard rock world. Maybe because their chart success was more during the era when the HueyRamone lookalike was singing.

Cozy's finest as well. I'd like to go back in time to the day when Blackmore decided he'd rather be in Foreigner and crack him one

Re: Rainbow Rising
Rising is great. Six songs only, but three of them are stone cold classics. Tarot Woman, Stargazer and A Light in the Black.
Starstruck may be the first sign of Blackmore's pop leanings, but it's great too.
I can understand why Blackmore wanted to go pop though. Rainbow were arena headliners for years but never had a gold or platinum album. That must have been frustrating.

Not sure I ever listened to it front to back, i'll have to do that. Stargazer is awesome.
Yeah, he should have changed the band name when the me lookalike came in. Did JLT ever sing much of the RJD material live?

Re: Rainbow Rising
Great album but the Rainbow album I like best is "Long live Rock N Roll".
The power of Sludge compels you.

That album might be more to Hueys taste.

I know i'm quoting myself here, but holy shit! Look at the setlist from the Bent Out Of Shape tour. Not one RJD song, if i'm not mistaken. They did Purple before they did RJD!HueyRamone wrote: ↑Wed Oct 23, 2024 7:24 am Not sure I ever listened to it front to back, i'll have to do that. Stargazer is awesome.

Well by that time they had done 3 albums with nobrows... let's face it, it was a different band.

For the life of me, I don't know how they played All Night Long and not fucking Since You've Been Gone or Stone Cold, both bigger hits. That is a weird ass setlist, all around.HueyRamone wrote: ↑Wed Oct 23, 2024 3:32 pmI know i'm quoting myself here, but holy shit! Look at the setlist from the Bent Out Of Shape tour. Re: Rainbow Rising
RISING is a fantastic album, but it's 2nd to HEAVEN AND HELL which is Ronnie's finest hour.

Yeah esp Stone Cold. That should be the closer or part of the encore.Anthrax442 wrote: ↑Wed Oct 23, 2024 6:24 pmFor the life of me, I don't know how they played All Night Long and not fucking Since You've Been Gone or Stone Cold, both bigger hits. Re: Rainbow Rising
No one ever accused Mr Blackmore of just playing what the fans want to hear.
