Didn't know that was you, I've been downloading your KISS videos and chucking them on my media server. Much nicer upgrades than the soft looking AI upscales that are everywhere now. Good stuff.

I grew up in a loud Italian household and my wife always complains I don’t let anyone else get a word in, so I think it’s kinda funny that Mike B couldn’t seem to interrupt me since people always complain that he cuts the guests off

I would agree you should remove the shitty keyboards from Unmasked where possible.

The demo of "You're All That I Want" is way better than what ended up on the actual album.

Im enjoying this!

You're out-dweebing those kiss dweebs at their own game!

Also you went on this weird tangent on which kiss drummer makes love and which drummer fucks, and how it all related to Jeff, Steve, and Marty in your own band, and none of them knew where you were going with this, but they were afraid to butt in!

The dude above your head is chatting with yo, but the other 2 dudes are checked out... what's up with that?

It was an analogy about how different guys approach drumming, not about how they actually fuck, haha.

Mark is the musician and a drummer. He’s the one who asked me to come on and I knew he was a musician so I guess a lot of the chat was more musically based (at times). Mike didn’t say a ton (and is often criticized for interrupting the guests, which is impossible with me) and Tommy isn’t a big talker from shows I’ve seen. I never shut the fuck up once I get going so there you have it. And yeah, I am going crazy fast the whole time. I just had a lot to say.

Whenever I have done interviews or podcasts about my own music I usually end up talking for like an hour and they don’t have to ask me any questions, haha.

They want to have me back on and I’ll try to pace myself a bit if it happens.

Wow I was surprised to learn that you are the main man in Anacrusis ! Great band ! I only wish I had learned of you when the band was still active !

I first became aware of them (perhaps 15 years ago ?) when someone gave me a disc with what appeared to be video documentary with additional music videos etc of the band . I had never even heard the name before and was shocked how great Anacrusis sounded , and the band seemed ahead of its time.

I just looked but can’t find the disc now … is it up on YouTube ?
Or any particular live footage link or documentary you recommend?

Watched the 3 sides interview today and it was awesome to hear you out geek the geeks ! You definitely need to do more shows with them , and make sure to keep doing the lions share of the talking like you did on this episode!

Thanks for all the efforts you put into remixing all the KISS stuff !
It is appreciated \m/

Also looking forward to a number of the projects you are working on that was talked about , and we can hear your passion for it !

Thanks! As for ANACRUSIS. You probably heard our final album Screams and Whispers (1993). The first 2 were more thrashy and the last two were more prog-ish.”Sound the Alarm” had a video we made for $2K with a film student friend of ours that made it I to headbangers ball.

We did reunite back in 2010-2013 for some festivals over in Europe and we did the 70,000 Tons of Metal cruise.

Then I release a huge solo album in 2014 (double album with 28 songs and 2 1/2 hours long)

We did a huge reunion show in 2019 with all original lineup a doing a 3 hour 3-part show where each drummer played songs from their album(s) and an encore with all six members doing a song together (two drum kits and our first drummer in guitar). I did a 10 camera shoot and multi-track audio of the whole show that I mixed and edited and is on YouTube now.

https://youtu.be/09TEK7-CnTM?si=6KWjMGa_BWsapScx

I also did a 2nd solo album in 2021 that was very similar to a more “mature” ANACRUSIS sound-wise. The old fans really liked it. I basically do all the drum sequencing and orchestral scoring/sequencing and then play all the guitars and bass along with all the vocals.

Check it out sometime…the first 13 songs are the actual album and the rest is a bonus disc with a couple more songs and some re-recordings of a couple Anacrusis songs…

Here’s a video I did for one of the songs using my iPhone and stock footage…

Oh, and you probably saw the Video Sheet Metal segment that we did at First Avenue in Minneapolis back in 1990 while touring with DRI. It has interview stuff outside on a train bridge.

Thanks so much for those links .

Wow, the 3 hour show is just damn epic !

If that ends up being the last Anacrusis concert , what a fantastic way to end the bands live career!

A few follow up questions for when you have some time :

Did you ever tour the Pacific Northwest, Vancouver BC , Seattle , Portland Oregon area ? If so, when ?

Can you talk and perhaps give some details about the tours you did , and what bands you played with ?
( I read you played with Death & Overkill , love both bands so would have been an incredible pairing to see )

How did you guys choose the band name ?

How did you guys choose the band name ?
Anacrusis is a musical term (greek word) meaning an un-accented beat that comes before the first downbeat (or syllable that comes before the first word in poetry/lyrics). Think of "OH-OH say can you see..." with the oh-oh being the anacrusis. Our guitarist saw it in the glossary of his high school music theory book and thought it sounded cool.

We played Portland and Seattle in '91 with overkill and the Galactic Cowboys. We only ever hit Canada in '90 with DRI (Toronto) and '93 with Mercyful Fate/Flotsam (Toronto and Montreal, I think). Never on the western side though.

We started playing out in '86 and our fist gig was opening for the KILER DWARFS at home in St. Louis. Then we did one-off openers for CORROSION OF CONFORMITY and ARMORED SAINT ('87) and DANZIG ('89).

Our first short tour was the east coast for a couple weeks in 1990. We did a few headliner club shows and also one-offs with OVERKILL (start of a long friendship), TROUBLE, COR-MAGS and BIOHAZRD.

Then we did about a month mostly in the midwest with DRI (Thrash Zone).

In 1991 We did almost 40 shows with OVERKILL and GALACTIC COWBOYS. That was everywhere from Rochester to Seattle to Tajuana to Florida and back up to Boston and most places in between. Just before that we scored about 7 shows opening for MEGADETH after ALICE IN CHAINS dropped off that tour. Rust In Peace Tour just after the Clash of the Titans thing.

In '93 we did about a month with the reunited MERCYFUL FATE (also CATHEDRAL and FLOTSAM). Right after that we went to Europe with DEATH. This was the Chuck/Di Giogio/Locicero/Hoglan line-up and we shared a bus together for about a month. Apparently Chuck was a fan and asked on the tour. When we got back we broke up near the end of 1993.

We also played the Milwaukee Metalfest in 1990 with Death Angel/Deicide/Morbid Angel and a ton more bands. We played it again in 1993 with Body Count, I think, and a shit ton of other bands.

We got back together in 2010 for a German old-school fest (original line-up). Then without our other guitarist we went back over to Germany the following year to play the Rock Hard Festival and also the Alcatraz Festival in Belgium with UDO/Helloween/Death Angel and Forbidden. We did the cruise in early 2013 and called it quits again.

I did a solo album in 2014 and in 2016 went to Europe for 2 festivals and some club shows under my own name doing about 50/50 Anacrusis/solo stuff. That band also featured our 2nd drummer from Anacrusis.

Then in 2019 we did the big final reunion gig. I wanted it to be everyone and to be special so I set it up as a 3 part show. I also designed and made all the stage stuff to look like our old jam room. it was all photoshopped with actual size fliers and posters of all our favorite stuff. many of those were actually hanging in our rehearsal room in the early years. The "concept" was that like when you start out you are in the basement or whatever and then when you start playing you are suddenly imaging yourself on the big stage with a great light show, etc. Then when the song ends you are back in the basement.

Anyhow, I don't plan on us ever playing together again, so that show was like great closure for everyone and we put aside all the old BS and just celebrated the band we were all a part of. it was also done since Metal Blade had just re-issued all 4 albums on vinyl and CD.

Someone should post the podcast over there since they seem to be ignoring it. Pretty sure they usually post them. Or maybe that’s just when they want to bitch about the show.

Edit: thanks to whoever posted about the podcast on the FAQ. I saw it for a minute and then I guess the thread was quickly deleted.
