I use the free version of Spotify in the car. I still like to buy digital files to support artists monetarily. I have too many CDs.

Used to have Spotify and Deezer but ended up not using them. Most of the music I listen to is on CD or if bootlegs, downloaded files.

None. I have my cd collection as I always have. I buy a CD occasionally of new release from one of the groups discussed here. I’ll also check out music on YouTube.
Although I’m on the internet all day between my laptop and iPad, I don’t even own a smartphone. Just using a basic flip phone that costs $20 every 3 months for minutes.

None. Everything I have is backed up on computer, iPod, and thumb drives.
I still buy music through iTunes occasionally, and just load it onto devices.
I don't understand the need for streaming - it would be the same concept as a monthly rental fee for my iPod.

I also do not give away my money to a streaming service. I still buy CD’s . I have a disc player in my car still and use that for long drives. I also have two 250 gig iPod classics that i have loaded with all my ripped discs. So ,I’m good without the fees of streaming.

Spotify is free. Continue to enjoy your cds and ipods. Don't stream if you don't want to. BUT.....Spotify is free

I use the free version of Spotify for podcasts, Neil Young Archives, and Scribd for audio books. I've still got a few functioning Ipod Classics and are getting a couple more upgraded and modified. I download some music, mainly from Bandcamp but still buy plenty of CDs and some vinyl. I also check out the Guitars 101 forums on occasion for bootlegs.

Just curious. Why use Scribd for audio books when Spotify has a large selection of audiobooks. I have premium family account so maybe they are included in premium ?
I’m completely in favor of the separation of Church and State. These two institutions screw us up enough on their own, so both of them together is certain death.

I don't have any ads on my iPod and can skip around however I want. For that, you need to pay for Spotify.

Re: Which Music Streaming Service Do You Subscribe To?
My understanding is that even with premium, Spotify only gives you 15 hours a month of audiobook access. Scribd had a more "unlimited" type of model where for around $12 a month you pick and choose whatever audiobooks you want to listen to without the monthly credit nonsense that Audible has. There are some limits here and there. If you add too many audiobooks, you'll get a message saying certain books aren't available until the next billing period, but that doesn't happen all that much. They recently changed their plan structure to be more in line with what Audible does but so far I seem to be grandfathered. Their selection isn't as good as Audible but I've never had a problem finding something to listen to. I never thought I'd be an audiobook person but I have to wear ear protection at my job and rather than just listen to myself breathing all day, it's nice to have a variety of background noice, whether it's an album, podcast or audiobook. For some reason I can't explain, having something to listen to helps me focus more.gtrjay wrote: ↑Sun Nov 24, 2024 5:19 pmCharles Bukaki wrote: ↑Sun Nov 24, 2024 5:05 pm I use the free version of Spotify for podcasts, Neil Young Archives, and Scribd for audio books. I have Spotify, which I mostly use for podcasts and playlists. I also preview albums using Spotify as well. If I like an album, or if it is an album from an artists I a fan of, I buy it off of Amazon.
Re: Which Music Streaming Service Do You Subscribe To?

I’ll also check out music on YouTube and play mp3s on random off of my computer (it feeds into my home stereo).

Spotify, but there are four of us using the account, so it isn't a bad deal. I also have about 23 000 + mp3 files on a hard drive and a few hundred CDs gathering dust, but Spotify playlists around the house, at work and in my car are a lot easier to deal with. I reckon that Spotify has 95% + of the music in my files and CDs. Most of the missing 5% or so I have downloaded onto my phone, so I can listen to them easily with a different player.

Once I got sick of the commercials on YouTube, I upgraded to YouTube Premium, which includes YouTube Music.
Before that, I used Spotify.

Tidal. No complaints other than it really wants me to like hip hop. I do not like hip hop.
Re: Which Music Streaming Service Do You Subscribe To?
I prefer an iPod loaded w/files, as opposed to streaming. I most often listen to whole "albums" & usually Iisten to a few records in a row by the same band. It's rare that I skip around & listen to a "playlist".Charles Bukaki wrote: ↑Sun Nov 24, 2024 5:05 pm I download some music, mainly from Bandcamp. I love Bandcamp, so much cool stuff on there from all over the world. A lot of it cheap, or even free. Those bootleg sites are excellent, as well. Albums That Should Exist is a good one. I also have a 2 TB hard drive with discogs for most all of the 60's/70's/80's bands. I pay for a downloading/converting app so I'll grab stuff from SoundCloud, Rumble, Youtube etc.

I watch a ton of YouTube and moving to YouTube Music saved money. I also like that I can upload stuff they don't have from my collection to YouTube Music and access it anywhere without having to load it onto my phone.Tenacious_Dio wrote: ↑Mon Nov 25, 2024 8:31 am Once I got sick of the commercials on YouTube, I upgraded to YouTube Premium, which includes YouTube Music.

As long as I have a job (no guarantee with all these shit companies nowadays), it's a splurge I can afford. The free services are a last resort option because of the limitations.

Spotify, and I love it.
Have premium family, and they just raised the price from 17 to 21 a month. My wife thought I was gonna blow a gasket, but I explained that we get 6 accounts for less that what it cost to buy 1 cd in 1989....and we all listen to a ton of music.
Can't remember why we initially chose Spotify, but I'm sure we'd like the others as well.
They do seem to be becoming a bit more bloated now.

Yes, we have the family plan too... and they don't have massive music collections sitting on a hard drive somewhere like I do.

Spotify is great but it sucks that it’s missing Southgang, Jagged Edge UK, Cry Wolf
I can’t believe some people here don’t pay for a streaming music service. Isn’t music a big part of our lives?
In addition to a Sirius subscription I also pay 2.99 for Hard Rock Heaven some hair metal streaming site which is fan fucking tastic
