Re: NYC ASSASSINATION ... Shooter with silencer assassinates United Healthcare CEO in Manhattan this morning.
I have had United Healthcare for over 20 years and have generally found them responsive to questions about denial of payment. It's happened a couple of times over those years, and sometimes the final assessment of their decision agains the written rules went in their favor. Two other times (once for $4500!) it went back in my favor, and I felt like their person helping by phone was solidly in my corner. They also helped shepherd me through prostate cancer payments in 2012 and brain tumor removal payments in 2022, both to my satisfaction.
I generally find them favorable - considerably easier and more transparent to work with than Cigna or Humana.
It does pay for people to read and understand the rules for what gets paid and what doesn't. Many people get angry but only find that the rules are being enforced as written, which is quite a bit different than just spuriously denying claims for purpose of enriching the CEO. CEO will get fired but he Board if he doesn't ensure that there are written and enforced rules around payments going out.

He may have known someone who THINKS they were screwed over by UHC. And maybe they even were. But if I were a betting man, I'd wager that they were adjudicated according to the written policy that they bought, and it's that person who FEELS they were mistreated, whether or not they really were.Danzig in the Dark wrote: ↑Thu Dec 05, 2024 9:23 am

I don't know about the "you people" comment, which never goes over well, but my observation over last 10-15 years is that I do seem to hear more conspiracy theories out of White people than from "other color" minorities.
Oddly, the one place in the world I've run into a bunch of "Alex Jones" types is up in Southern Alberta part of Canada. When down in Texas (where Jones was based), we didn't really see or hear from him at all. Up in Alberta, it was surprising the number of people who seemed to follow him.

Good post. Another point nobody mentions is the difference between a fully-insured arrangement (insurance company pays) versus a self-insured arrangement (employer pays, insurance company just processes claims). Many people who get claims denied think it's the "evil HMO" when in reality it could be their employer.Van Ailin' wrote: ↑Fri Dec 06, 2024 7:27 amIt does pay for people to read and understand the rules for what gets paid and what doesn't. If you're trying to mix it up, you dont buy 2 coats that are 95% similar, so similar that it does tip off people that it's you. That makes no fucking sense.

Last November, the estates of two former UHC patients filed suit in Minnesota alleging that the insurer used an AI algorithm to deny and override claims to elderly patients that had been approved by their doctors.
The algorithm in question, known as nH Predict, allegedly had a 90 percent error rate — and according to the families of the two deceased men who filed the suit, UHC knew it.
https://www.propublica.org/article/unit ... algorithm?
Around 2016, government officials began to pry open United’s black box. They found that the nation’s largest health insurance conglomerate had been using algorithms to identify providers it determined were giving too much therapy and patients it believed were receiving too much; then, the company scrutinized their cases and cut off reimbursements.
By the end of 2021, United’s algorithm program had been deemed illegal in three states.
But that has not stopped the company from continuing to police mental health care with arbitrary thresholds and cost-driven targets, ProPublica found, after reviewing what is effectively the company’s internal playbook for limiting and cutting therapy expenses. The insurer’s strategies are still very much alive, putting countless patients at risk of losing mental health care.

I meant they filmed him all over the city.
It's highly unlikely he still is.
They believe he took a bus from Atlanta. Used a fake NJ license to check-in to the hostel.

I shared the guy's photos where you can see his face on IG and of course, there were the quick reactions of "It's NOT even the same jacket or back-pack, who is sharing this?"
I would bet on the NYPD and related detectives for knowing what they're doing. And, we all know, whatever is public knowledge, the authorities are hours if not a full or more ahead with other intel none of us have seen or heard.
I guess I am mostly perplexed, that the guy's face (clear as a bell) has been out for 36 hours, and no arrest yet.
I would like to believe as widely as those images have been shared yesterday and today, that several people have already seen them and said: "That's so and so..." and already called it in.
The cops might be staking out every known relative, job location, and more since yesterday... waiting to pounce on the guy!

It's now being reported that the authorities believe the killer used a noise-suppressing firearm that's commonly used by veterinarians to put down farm animals.
