"ONE ALBUM" BANDS

Post by inextrem »

Hey there.

By "One album bands" I mean those who 90% of the time you go for a certain album, even though we may have some more records of such artist, we tend to always listen to one in particular... (NOT COUNTING COMPILATIONS OR LIVE ALBUMS)

In my case:

Cradle of Filth: The Principle of Evil Made Flesh
Pearl Jam: Ten
Machine Head: Burn My Eyes
Ted Nugent: Ted Nugent
Van Halen: "I"
Paradise Lost: "Draconian Times"

Threads like this make me miss the old sludge boards, where anything and everything went. This kind of thread for sure would of turned into some epic sludge, some major flaming. By now it would of gone three or four pages of pretty much nothing but trolling and flames.

Of course Iggy would of added some of the most obscure shit and bands no one had ever heard of before.

Even though it's cheese, I listen to Doomsday far more than No Place.

There are probably plenty of multi-album hair bands where all you need is the debut because they used up all their good songs. Saigon Kick, Love/Hate and Enuff Z'Nuff for starters.

Let's be honest, if you've heard one AC/DC or ZZ song then you've heard them all, so just spin Back In Black and Deguello. (Eliminator doesn't count due to the drum machine).

So, you go with fucking Born Again, but then the Black Album? That is a WILD obscure/mainstream swing.

I don't hate it, just find it interesting.

Not sure I really have any, but I'm sure I've listened to Poison -Flesh and Blood far more than any of the rest.

Well, you're talking about 2 different things.

"one album wonders" where you can name obscure bands. There were plenty of 80's rock bands that only had one album. Trouble Tribe? Roxxi "Drive it to Ya Hard"? Signal "Loud & Clear"? I was going to say Blue Tears but their demos were released as albums many years later and Gregg did a record using the Blue Tears name. But they really only had 1 true official album.

Then "one album bands" like the OP is talking about where you listen to one album more than the others. GNR and Boston are great examples. I'm sure Bon Jovi Slippery When Wet, Michael Jackson Thriller, Prince Purple Rain...mega hit records like that are at the top of the list too.
"You want Don Juan DeMarco, the world's greatest lover, to talk to you? What do you know of great love?"

White Lion - Pride

There is not one track on this album that I ever feel compelled to skip, even "When the Children Cry". I also really like albums where the first two or three songs seem to perfectly segue from one to the next, and I love how "Hungry", even though it does stop, it's only for a moment before the opening notes for "Lonely Nights" quietly start playing before cranking up. You barely notice that the song has changed.

As for the next two, I tried listening to Big Game years ago, and it wasn't as good as Pride, though I do like "Cry for Freedom". I tried listening to Mane Attraction recently and couldn't make it through the first song.

Another one would be "Savatage's "Edge of Thorns", but in all fairness, once I've listened the album twice in a row I sometimes go for "Streets" and "Gutter Ballet".
That doesn't happen to me with "Ten" for example, I don't usually go for any other Pearl Jam album after having listened to that one.
