Anyone like Dive-only Floyds?
I dont understand dive-only Floyds. Why wouldnt you want to pull up? Even if you dont want to pull up much, at least your vibrato would have the note as the starting point and the pitch both above and below, rather than just below.

there are 2 advantages to a non floating floyd...1. you can use a d-tuna, 2. if you break a string the other strings don't go out of tune as it is resting against the body (all my floyds float)...d.m.

Got an EVH with the dive only floyd.
It feels odd actually.
I guess it’s the only way to get drop D and a trem???

Are u cereal? One of Dimebag's main things was to move the bar to the rear of the guit, and press down on the bar, thus raising the pitch. You cant think of any instances where he does squealy harmonics and raises the fuck out of the pitch?BernieTaupson wrote: ↑Fri Dec 20, 2024 10:36 pmEVH didn’t have a problem with a dive-only Floyd. You're also not gonna get a KK Downing wide vibrato just going down.

Soon as you use Douchebag as your PoR you lose all credibility.

Oh, I didnt realize Dimebag was universally hated in metal guitar playing. Interesting.Bono Nettencourt wrote: ↑Sat Dec 21, 2024 2:52 pm Soon as you use Douchebag as your PoR you lose all credibility.

Re: Anyone like Dive-only Floyds?
The main advantage to having the trem flush against the body is being able to bend double stops without the strings going flat. You just need enough tension from the springs to keep the bridge stationary. Satriani was commenting on this when he had to learn Ed's parts. He had a guitar set up like Ed's with the Floyd flush. I think it was the Frankenstrat but I might be wrong about that.
Personally I have a real love/hate relationship with Floyds. In my estimation they have an adverse effect on the tone and playability of a guitar. But they allow all kinds of ridiculous stunts and stay in tune great.
I tried pulling the bridge all the way to the body on my Fender Strat Plus Deluxe (1996 model with that weird Floyd non locking nut with the rollers) and missed being able to pull it sharp. It felt very strange just going down.
It's amazing what Ed did with his one direction whammy and what he was actually doing with just his wicked left hand vibrato most of the time.

No, you dont understand what I mean when I say move the bar to the back. you simply rotate the bar to the back of the guitar body, so up is down and down is up on your floating tremBernieTaupson wrote: ↑Sat Dec 21, 2024 8:32 pmEddie Van Halen? And I don’t know much about Dimebag’s playing but if he had to do what you’re saying (move the bar to the rear) then he clearly didn’t have a floating trem either, it’s set to only dive and he’s cheating it by moving it to the rear. If he thought it was so essential to be able to pull up he’d use a floating trem right?
This vid shows you how at 2:31 https://youtu.be/7Z_hmx4Td_U?t=151
I know EVH was dive only, but I shouldnt have to say how ridic it is to say something like "EVH was dive only, so there no reason for anyone to pitch up"
