Songs with bad radio edits

Post by ParaDime77 »

The other day I was driving and listening to the local classic rock station when “Right Now” by Van Halen was playing. What tripped me up was instead of a guitar solo there was an extended keyboard solo instead. I’ve never heard a radio edit with that version before.

Another one “Is This Love” by Whitesnake where the main guitar solo is suddenly abbreviated. Seems completely unnecessary.

The 45 version of “Detroit Rock City” is a notoriously bad hatchet job.

Not sure if this counts…

“I’d like to thank MTV for playing the video, although there was always a word that I could never understand.” - Tom Petty at the ‘94 VMAs, regarding ‘You Don’t Know How It Feels’ and the chorus being edited to ‘Let’s get to the point, let’s roll another nouuunnnggggeeee…’

I’ve heard a lot of editing and censorship in my day, I dunno why ‘joint’ had to be censored, but it sounded ridiculous.

Wow, that edit doesn't even make sense. Never heard it before today.

Yeah, theres a lot of ways you could jump to the first and 3rd verses, and what they picked wasnt any of them. The (edited out) solo was an abomination as well.

This is bad enough to be a FranKENstein Original!

Not a sludge band but I was listening to Space Age Love Song tonight at work and it was the radio edit. They cut most of the guitar parts which is the whole vibe of the song.

It's absolutely idiotic to contend Zep weren't A-listers in the 1970s.

The word, "joint" was removed and then reinserted backwards.

As long as I'm learning something, I figure I'm OK - it's a decent day.

REO's Keep on Loving You with the guitar solo either abbreviated or cut out.

Wow I didn't even know that existed. It's a short solo, and the whole song is only 3:20, ffs...

I actually prefer that one, it's less sappy.

I don't recall hearing that one, but I do know that for years I would hear an edit of "Take It on the Run" where the guitar solo was poorly trimmed.

Ozzy - No More Tears

They truncate the opening bass line, but they totally hack up the middle piano/guitar section. :x

Another one heard today and it always yanks my chain: Journey “Separate Ways” and post guitar solo they cut from the “I still love you gurrrrrrrrl” right to the ending of the song. Lame.

This was the first one I thought of as well. The cut from the guitar to Ozzy's rejoin in the middle is brutally bad.

Alan Parsons Project - Eye in the Sky.

They cut out the great guitar solo to get it under 4 minutes.

Under Pressure is a really weird one if I remember right. The only edit makes it shorter by like 3 seconds by taking out one of the two 'this is our last dance' lyrics at the end.

All these weird edits just to shorten songs by a few seconds here and there yet “Stranglehold” has been played a million times on the radio for decades and it isn’t even “Stairway To Heaven”, “Freebird” or “Bohemian Rhapsody”.

Our local dad-rock station used to play a version of Don't Fear the Reaper with the entire middle section cut out. I'll go with that one
