I've always loved almost all of the pre-break up era. In recent years I've been exposed to more classic rock radio than I would like and they have firmly cemented my hate for the later period. If I never hear any of the tired swaybacks like "Crazy", "Angel", "What It Takes", "Elevator", blah blah blah, ever again it'll be too soon. But I'm sure I'll hear all of those within 20 minutes of being in earshot of a classic rock station.

The thing I like about latter-day Aerosmith is exactly what a lot of "purists" hate about it. It isn't the grungy 70's heroin-fueled sound and that's totally fine with me. I still have that stuff to listen to any time I want. With the late 80's and 90's, you get those big pop choruses and horns and hooks and they do that shit just as well as they did grungy heroin shit. Tyler's voice took on a whole other dimension (pun not intended) and they became about a different type of excess. You get both with one band. Even with the new shit, no one was doing what Aerosmith was doing at the same time. It doesn't sound like anyone else. It's as unique as the 70's stuff, just with different sound. Half of the try-hards that fall all over themselves to hate on it in every thread will close their laptops and go happily listen to Bon Jovi.

It's sort of the same argument with the black chick playing the Little Mermaid. People freaked out, but you still have all the old white fish lady shit, too. No one's taking that away just because there's also a new version, now. It's okay to like both.

Van Halen better than Aerosmith for Eddie alone
Yeah. This. They were on another level, especially during the Roth era.
Meh, if I had to make a 10-song compilation of both bands, Ain’t Talkin’ ’bout Love is probably the only Van Halen track that would make it.

When Van Halen were good they were great, but even their best-of has filler.
