Okay, your favorite Lep albums are On Through the Night and High 'n' Dry without the pussy remixes, look at the special boy.

You got dumped by a girl named Christine and cried to "Love Bites." Kept calling her on your Sports Illustrated football phone, it was sad.

Went from a heavy/hard rock band to a full on "hair band".

They were great at both.

one of the main criticisms, at least initially, was the decision to release "Women" as the first single.

I thought it was a brilliant move myself.

"Women" and "God's Of War" are fire.

Great rock songs, but don't scream hit singles. And it showed where women charted.

that's what I liked about "Women" specifically - it's NOT a "single", it's more of a deep cut.

Great album but I think the worst single decision was ”Animal”, the weakest song on the album. And that is putting the bar high.

Funny. At the time I thought Pyromania was their best and one of my favorite albums overall. Today it's their 3rd best after both HND and Hysteria.
It took me a while to warm up to Hysteria but it's a great album. The deluxe with the four b-sides on the same disc shows that they could have done some better choices though. I don't particularly like the ballads, but can't argue with a #1 and a top 10 hit. Excitable and Love and Affection are throwaway filler though, and they had better songs in Tear It Down, Ring of Fire and I Wanna Be Your Hero ready to go. Better songs that would give the album a better ending too. Tear it Down is the perfect ending song... on Adrenalize.

Good album, but not as good as Pyromania or High 'N' Dry. I mostly liked it when it came out, but I think I'd lost some interest in Def Leppard at that point because we'd been waiting forever for it to be released and I'd moved onto a lot of other stuff. I probably bought at least ten or fifteen different CDs before I got Hysteria. Thought it sounded a little too slick and not ballsy enough, but considering that Pyromania was such a tough act to follow, it was still pretty good. Hysteria had more "chick" appeal than earlier albums. The first half is loaded with singles, but the second half not so much. I think the song placement/order on Pyromania works better. Don't recall "Women" getting any airplay where I was living in Canada. (Wasn't a great single, nor a great album opener.) "Animal" was the song that seemed to get the most play when the album came out.

IMO, the song "Hysteria" sounds like a limper version of "Animal"......... and does nothing for me (or their live set).

Women was not a hit in Canada at all, let alone anywhere else. It only hit #80 on the Billboard Top 100. I know Much Music played the video here and there, and I'm sure our local rock station played it, but definitely did not generate much excitement about the album. Even the band admitted they were a little nervous there for a while.

Women is still one of my faves on Hysteria.

I don't remember ever seeing a Hysteria video before "Sugar." But bear this in mind, I didn't really watch as much MTV as I did later on so maybe I just wasn't paying enough attention.

I remember the summer of '88 being about two songs: "Pour Some Sugar on Me" and "Sweet Child O' Mine."

With "Sugar," I had a friend tell me "You *have* to hear this song." Perfect song for 8 year old boys.

And strippers.

I remember seeing the video for ‘women’ first. It had comic book stuff.

This live version of “hysteria” is impressive:

I agree that Women and especially Gods of War are the best songs on the album.

Their atmospheric stuff like Die Hard the Hunter and Gods of War is so good.
