Bro Country - thumbs up or thumbs down

Post by pieceofme »

Guaranteed thumbs up from nate s axel. Even dmbrocker doesn't like this shit and he likes pretty much everything.

I wonder what alley rulez thinks of it. He's fairly vanilla so he probably likes it just for the sake of it. Weirdo.

Yep. Two thumbs waaaaaaay down. Wallen, Combs, Aldean, Luke Bryan, Zach Bryan, Riley Green, Brantley Gilbert, etc. can all go kindly fuck off. Music for small town white trash. Johnny Cash and Waylon Jennings should be rolling in their graves at what these jokers have turned mainstream country music into.

HA!!! Is this topic just for me? I think the new term for it is "hick hop"! Proud to be the only vote.

I like all country, including the bands dmbrocker mentioned. Merle, Waylon, and Hank Jr. were among my most-played artists in 2024 -- along with Jason Aldean, Morgan Wallen and Florida Georgia Line. There's room for all. Plenty of new artists today have that old-country sound if you want that... Zach Top, Charley Crockett, Colter Wall, and way too many more to mention.

It's just way more relatable and fun than a lot of 80s rock now. GIRLS, whiskey, best friends, bonfires, Friday nights, road trips, reminiscing about good times, missing people that are gone... give me all of that every day of the week.

Maybe "bro country" now is what "hair metal" was like back in 1989, but unlike rock fans on here that diss the same washed-up rockers they used to worship once upon a time, country fans still respect the old schoolers still making music. George Strait's stadium shows are just as big as Morgan Wallen's... and I've had front row tickets to both this past year.

Most rock fans are just too tired and depressing now. Country fans are out there at 25 or 75, still having a good time instead of bitching about the setlist. Even if I'd like to be a little more "small town" or "white trash" like my buddies back in Minnesooooota, I've been a city boy forever... that loves country. There's a niche for everything in Las Vegas.

I like old "classic" country music, listened to it my whole life. Bro-Country is the worst genre in music. Nothing redeeming about it at all. Even fucking opera is more listenable.

I only listen to David Allan Coe.

Outlaw country is the only acceptable country.

Like its distant urban cousin, mumble rap, bro country is mostly terrible. The first time I heard it years ago I actually thought it was done as a joke. Sadly, it was not.

Double thumbs up.

Just like Rock there's sub genres right? Classic Rock, Hair Metal, Alternative, Industrial, Speed Metal,....

I love classic country like Waylon and Cash. Does that mean the new stuff sucks and I can't listen to it too. Stupid!

Does anybody listen to Rolling Stones AND Metallica? Oh my god.... Blashpemy!!!!! You better not like both Bill Anderson and Jason Aldean!!!!

Some of it is fine. It's like hair metal's inbred cousin. But put on The Highway for half an hour and you'll hear six songs that are all about drinking or some play on words about drinking. Redundant, predictable and lazy. And yes, I realize hair bands did that too about chicks and partying, but I was 12 and that seemed cool.

Anyone who criticizes "Bro Country" as bad for music and culture but does not simultaneously criticize the roughly 70% of all hip hop that is even worse and influence on culture (and for that matter, much of the hair metal scene from the 80s) is a hypocrite.

Classic country is great.

Bro country sucks shit. The only thing bro country has going for it are the ladies. You'll never see more eye candy at a show.

It’s now reached the C and D tier and very similar to hair metal. The bro-country lyrics are for absolute brain rotted clowns who drink Mountain Dew and stink like grape vape.

Hopefully it dies a similar death. I can't wait until the "Cunge" movement hits in a couple of years.

These are all 12 or 13 years old at this but the genre hasn't evolved at all

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FY8SwIvxj8o

One big mashup showing it's all one song.

Source Tracks:

"Sure Be Cool If You Did"- Blake Shelton
"Drunk on You"- Luke Bryan
"Chillin' It"- Cole Swindell
"Close Your Eyes"- Parmalee
"This is How We Roll"- Florida Georgia Line
"Ready, Set, Roll"- Chase Rice

I play a lot of pool in bars so I hear a lot of this shit over and over again and can't stand it.

Technically, Outlaw Country was the original bro country with the Highwaymen and all of that.

While I am not a massive follower of this "genre" they call Bro Country... I will say... that the Early Ray "Apple Pie" record is GREAT!

Of course there were some haters, who wanted to take shots, talk sh!t, etc... when I got behind this friend a few years ago, but what else is new.

Seriously, if any of you like country, or some more modern styled country, check out Early Ray (Rayen Belchere)... he's a legit singer song-writer, and this CD is great!

Here are a few songs, from an earlier release, that we remastered and compiled to make the "Apple Pie" record.

"Fried Pickles" > https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DeI5WgYiY58

"Where The Wild Things Are" > https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NNlteezNQsQ

"Go Big or Go Home" > https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bw6XQzfoX8I

"If You Can't Find The Time" > https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m9Y3WCn10OU

I like Zach Bryan, but not other bro country. That's the limit for me. There's also plenty good modern era country that isn't that overblown stadium love my truck shit in addition to the more classic stuff.

Early Ray is on your RLS label?

Appears the band has not released any music since 2020. What happened?
