Same band that made "High and Dry Saturday Night".
What an embarrassing career downfall.
Maybe they should cover some Barbara Streisand next.

Ehh. They did the boy band thing three decades ago with "Breathe A Sigh" on Slang.

Sounds great!
Sounds like maybe Joe Elliot was the only one involved with this, I don’t hear harmonies or backing vocals but I’m half deaf … only half so far as of right now.

It's...fine. But I also don't know why it exists.

I avoided this thread because I knew it would be shit. I don't even like the Ben E King version. Utter trash. Like, why? 45 seconds and bailed.

Sounds like Joe singing over a decent karaoke backing track. And his voice seems pretty strong, so probably something they have had "in the can" for over 20 years.

Re: Def Leppard - "Stand by Me"
We want Def Leppard and Bon Jovi to sound like the '80s pop-metal gods we grew up with ... but those bands grew up on the '60s, and that's the music they relate to.
It's why we got Bon Jovi shoe-horning "Shout" into their setlist for decades like some worn-out wedding band.
These guys have more in common with our parents than us.

Trust me. Listen to this version. You won't regret it. This is what a cover song should be.

I thought that was pretty nice. But I also absolutely love that song, so if you do a mostly-faithful version, I'll probably dig it.

When I listened to this song, I could hear Michael Scott saying,
Def Leppard: Why are you the way that you are? Honestly, every time I try to hear something fun or exciting, you make it not that way. I hate so much about the things that you choose to be.

Came here to post this. Stephen Wilson Jr. is on a whole other level. Been listening to him almost exclusively for 2 months now. He also has an amazing Nirvana and Everclear cover in his YouTube page.bringbacktherock wrote: ↑Mon Feb 03, 2025 9:16 pm https://youtu.be/9kn7E-OauJI?si=dwdBxgbL7gdjvpXm

I'm in the exact same boat. I can't remember another artist that I feel the need to share links to their stuff like I do with him. Here is another great song from him: https://youtu.be/jFMJat9OJOw?si=x4GPuoQDzk6i3-EzBulletProofPoet wrote: ↑Sun Feb 09, 2025 9:22 pmCame here to post this. Ugh. The only thing good about it is that the original song is a classic.bringbacktherock wrote: ↑Mon Feb 03, 2025 9:16 pm https://youtu.be/9kn7E-OauJI?si=dwdBxgbL7gdjvpXm

It's overly dramatic which might work if he wrote the song himself but it's just way over the top just to be way over the top.
The guitar was equally histrionic.
I couldn't make it through the second verse

Everyone has their own opinion. Read the comments on the video. You are in the minority on this one.Velvis wrote: ↑Thu Feb 13, 2025 8:35 pmUgh. Re: Def Leppard - "Stand by Me"
I wasn't looking to be in the majority or minority and other people's opinions however valid or popular they may be aren't going to make this sound good to my ears.
To me it's the equivalent of a cheesy melodramatic soap opera.

For all the cowboys out there. I always liked the Mickey Gilley version that was in Urban Cowboy.

Not horrible, just the wrong song for them to cover.
Good example of a great cover is the Scorpions covering Ruby Tuesday. They nailed it.
