Mark Lanegan - Sing Backwards and Weep

Post by PhrozenInferno »

The best music autobiography I have read. Bar none.

Essentially a career junkie whose music career seemed to only slow him down. Some of the stories he included are absolute cinema.

Anyone read?

I buy too many books in charity shops, i snapped this one up a year ago as I'd heard lots of good things about it but it's gone unread since. Thanks for the prompt, I will move it to the top of the pile, for after I finish my current book.

I read this a year or two ago, and, agreed. It’s just great.

Probably the only rock memoir I rank higher is Steve Gorman’s Black Crowes tell-all.

One word review: Harrowin’.

Seriously though it is DARK, but a really good read.

Being a junkie seems exhausting.

It's in a thread in the Lounge - Conquerors: How Portugal Seized the Indian Ocean and Forged the First Global Empire. I love history and travel books. The more esoteric subject, the better.

I ultimately didn’t like it.
He came across quite humorless and the big Liam feud was silly.
Liam handled it better

Humm...drugs, failed career and basically an all-around miserable guy (according to some reviews.)

Sounds great.

Will pick up the audio book for my morning walks after I finish Druma Key by Stephen King

I wouldn’t say failed career.
He was like an older brother to the big 4 of grunge, sang on Mad Season.
Hit a high water mark with ‘bubblegum’ and then from ‘blues funeral’ on was more high profile & well respected by many of the greats.
He left a huge body of interesting work and got his due

It's a great book, but it ends ends a little prematurely in the early 00's. Does his other book continue from there?
