Mott the Hoople
I've heard this band mentioned here and there, but never tried to check them out. It's nice to learn about the forgotten heroes of Rock. It looks like they had one hit in the 70s. Any fans here?

They recorded the Bowie tune, All the Young Dudes. That’s literally it.

They also did "All the Way from Memphis" - as covered by Contraband, Brian May and othersDemonFilth2001 wrote: ↑Sat Feb 08, 2025 11:22 am They recorded the Bowie tune, All the Young Dudes. That’s literally it.
Classic case of a 'big in Britain' band.

There was at least one other big song, Roll Away The Stone.krisholmes wrote: ↑Sat Feb 08, 2025 11:32 amThey also did "All the Way from Memphis" - as covered by Contraband, Brian May and othersDemonFilth2001 wrote: ↑Sat Feb 08, 2025 11:22 am They recorded the Bowie tune, All the Young Dudes. Not exactly. Ian Hunter wrote one of the quintessential rock books, Diary Of A Rock'nRoll Star, about their 1972 US tour - mix of support shows, multi-band bills and headlining theaters - and compared it to their humdrum life back home. And it wasn't their first US tour either. They might not have had chart hits but they had a dedicated fan base. Not many British rock bands of that era got that sort of chance. It didn't last, but it doesn't for almost everyone.

I just found out The Monkees covered one of Ian Hunter's songs! That's trivia for ya!

Re: Mott the Hoople
Frank Feranna name dropped them in "Poison Apples" on the Corabi album for some reason. "We loved our Mott The Hoople, it kept us all so enraged..."
I think they were pissed Mott The Hoople was a one-barely-hit wonder.

Actually, Mick Ralphs wrote it when he was still in Mott, and then brought it with him when he joined Bad Company.DangerZone wrote: ↑Sat Feb 08, 2025 5:14 pm Just found out last night they wrote “ready for love” (the bad company tune)
