It is a great song. A lot of Al Stewart's albums and songs were very good. He still plays a lot of shows each year. (His old guitar player, Tim Renwick, played as live second guitarist for Pink Floyd from '87 to '94.)

You're right about not hearing it played much. Classic/album rock stations still played it and "Time Passages" through the 80s, as did some oldies stations, but that hasn't been sustained over the past few decades, except for the rock stations that do those Sunday morning, classic rock deep dives. I think of heard him played on that classic vinyl channel on Sirius. That's the only satellite station my father plays.

Funny coincidence that you mention, Gerry Rafferty in this thread. I actually have a Spotify playlist that is half Al Stewart, and half Gerry Rafferty. All of City to City is great, and each of his other albums generally had at least three or four really good songs. Like Kate Bush and another big British artist largely ignored in North America, Chris Rea, Rafferty barely if ever played on this side the pond.
