What’s your preferred era of the ROLLING STONES?

The one that started it all. Spreading gossip and insults since 1998.

What’s your preferred era of the ROLLING STONES?

Post by Chip Z'Hoy »

I’ve been listening to the U.K. version of Aftermath a lot lately. I was fairly unfamiliar with the BJ years—what a fool I’ve been! Really great stuff.

But I still prefer the Mick Taylor albums. Not a real unpopular opinion; I think most people like those records the best.

You don’t have to define these eras by the guitarists. You can do whatever you want. The Woke Mind Virus is dead!!!!

No, you do, and the Mick Taylor era is the only acceptable answer.

It's absolutely idiotic to contend Zep weren't A-listers in the 1970s.

All eras of the Stones are great, but Beggars Banquet through Tattoo You is probably their best run.

Only era I cared about was 1997 Dodger Stadium era -The Wall Flowers opened
Jani Lane and Bret Michaels should form a band called "Nelson II"

Pretty much this but I usually cut out after Some Girls. I also really like the early bluesy material and the pop/psychedelia they did before Beggar's. I struggle with them post-Tattoo. The songs all seem to sound the same without real discernible riffs or vocal melodies. Still some gems here in there though.

Not sure if it's an era, but I like Some Girls -> Dirty Work.

I agree. If I had to narrow it down a little, it would be Beggars Banquet through Exile On Main Street.

No way - Goat's Head Soup, It's Only Rock 'n Roll, Black and Blue and Emotional Rescue are some of the weakest albums in their catalogue. The classic four album run of Beggar's through Exile is the best, but there's tons of great songs in the 60's.

I love 70s Stones, but just go listen to Hot Rocks and see how much fucking great stuff is on there.

More of an error than an era.

It's still a good album, but relative to the greatness that preceded it, it's just "good". In my opinion of course

Musically, I guess it would be that run with their "big 4" albums (Beggars/Bleed/Fingers/Exile)...

But I really dig the vibe and music of the Some Girls album...it was a great latter comeback album and Ron Wood is just more fun of a dude than Mick Taylor. That live show they put out from Texas is great.

This. Although, as good as Mick Taylor is and as classic as his era is, I’m partial to the Ronnie Wood era. I think Some Girls, specifically Miss You and Burden were my introduction to the band. I love all those albums but Some Girls is as classic as any. I love Rescue, TY and Undercover. The Steel Wheels to present is a comeback run no others have achieved. SW gets shit on a lot but it has become a favorite of mine.

60’s, 70’s, 80’s and they are still great live as of last year when I saw them.

It’s funny. I almost never mention or talk about them when I talk about my favorite bands. It’s almost like those songs are in the public domain. Beatles too. Like duh…yeah, everybody likes at least a few of their songs.
