Robbie Williams, yay or nay?

Robbie Williams, yay or nay?

What say you?
I like the man, he has some great songs. And he seems bend on pissing off Jimmy Page.

Love! I appreciate the British humor and sarcasm.

He should be bigger in the States but I can’t be how big he is in the UK so I guess he’s about even.

He’s got a few compilation albums so I’d start there. I think my personal favorites are Come Undone, Me and My Monkey, Shame, of course Angels and Better Man. Candy is insanely catchy. The single version of Sin Sin Sin. Lots of great songs that sound nothing like anything else I can think of.

Is he THAT popular there? I guess that’s part of why I like him. In the US, he’s really a one hit wonder. When things get TOO popular they start to lose their appeal.

In the late 90s/early 2000s he was.

And his band take that were huge in the mid 90s.

Nay.
His name sounds too close to Robin Williams which is annoying.
The same way Ryan Adams is too close to Bryan Adams.

I cannot believe that this is seriously a topic on metal sludge?

Seriously?

The guy is the U.K. equivalent of someone from new kids on the block

He has literally nothing to do with rock/metal

Any rocker over here knows this and looked up to the USA for solidly rejecting his music.

I thought this board of all places would realise this 🤣

What next “anyone here rate new kids on the block ?”

It's ok not to like him. But that's a dumb comparison.

You don't know anything about music, or entertainment. That's ok.

And apparently metal sludge where we disucss a variety of artists/bands outside the typical sludge bands. And have for my tenure here (20+ years)

Fuck, he was enormous in New Zealand for a little while there. I saw him at what I guess was his prime - it was a pretty fun show.

When Robbie exploded in the late 90s he was one of the very few people doing what could be considered 'Arena Rock' - hardly anyone was even using the word 'ROCK' back then. Such an odd time. Robbie was probably the closest thing on a big scale to the music I loved which had the right kind of energy and I was all over it. Big bombastic Rock Songs with a great live band too.
📼 The only thing that ever made sense to me - Is the words to a song from an American movie! 📼

Rob, I respect your music and achievements , and insight

We are similar age and around similar scene

However , I always thought it was fake indie rock , I never heard anything genuine to the classic or stadium rock , although he wore Kiss makeup in a video.

Again though, I respect your opinion. But you can keep ‘rude box’ and ‘relight my fire’, and I’ll stick with ‘total 13’, ‘payin the dues’ and ‘space age playboys’ that was my 90s/milenial rock revival.
