The New York Dolls: Deadest band ever?
Johansen going puts them 1 ahead of the Ramones (4 dead from classic lineup) and two ahead of Motorhead (3 dead from CL).
They even have a wildcard in Billy Murcia, their original drummer who did the demos for the first album and died before the record was recorded, so they really have 6.
Is there any band with:
A: More dead members from a classic lineup (No big bands or "we had 100+ members bands included)
B: More completely dead. (Like if it is a 7 person band but one guy is still alive, that doesn't count)

Depends on how you do the math...100% of the classic lineup of Motorhead is dead.

Yeah, has to go to Skynyrd. Everyone from the classic era is dead except Artimus Pyle, (not counting Medlocke), so if you include Cassie, they're at 9:AliceManson wrote: ↑Sat Mar 01, 2025 4:04 pmSleek wrote: ↑Sat Mar 01, 2025 3:55 pm Johansen going puts them 1 ahead of the Ramones (4 dead from classic lineup) and two ahead of Motorhead (3 dead from CL).

Lynyrd Skynyrd.

Ed King
Leon WIlkenson
Billy Powell
Bob Burns
Cassie Gaines
Honorable Mention to Allman Brothers, who's at 5 out of 6, with just Jaimoe left.

Skynyrd fails under article B. They are at most 90% dead.

Motorhead succeeds under article B because they are 100% dead, but still have 2-3 fewer dead members, depending on your counting.

No the whole original band is dead, dipshit. 6 Members. Plus like 4 or 5 other members on top of that.Sleek wrote: ↑Sat Mar 01, 2025 5:37 pmNobody read my post, did they?Anthrax442 wrote: ↑Sat Mar 01, 2025 4:31 pm Yeah, has to go to Skynyrd. Hey man, I don't know a lot about those fucking peckerwoods. I was just going by: "Yeah, has to go to Skynyrd. Everyone from the classic era is dead except Artimus Pyle".

I would like to nominate MAYHEM for some sort of special award in this thread.

Once Bob Weir, Bill Kreutzman and Mickey Hart go, the Dead will be the Deadest band ever. Give it about 5 years. (Pigpen joined the 27 club, Jerry died in '95 and Phil Lesh died a few months ago)

Their second one is still alive, but yeah the four other ones are Dead. Also, Donna Godchaux is still alive, she was a member during the entire middle période.AliceManson wrote: ↑Sun Mar 02, 2025 6:10 amYep. Re: The New York Dolls: Deadest band ever?
Just to clear that up, Artimus was technically a replacement for Bob Burns, who played on the first two records, but since Artimus played on Nuthin' Fancy, Gimme Back My Bullets and Street Survivors, I figured I should mention him or else someone else would have. Now, you can go back to not knowing a lot about them.
This doesn't count at all based on your rules, but if you want a lot of death, how about the Temptations? One living member from the classic era, the other four are dead, along with NINE replacements, for a total of 13.
I was kind of surprised that Thin Lizzy is still holding up as well as it is, only Phil is dead of the original three, and only two of the six replacements from the original era have passed.

Actually, The Band beat out the Dolls by a month when their last OG member Garth Hudson died near the end of January, and they're tied with the Dolls for number of members.

10% of the New York Dolls are dead, from a larger sample size.Wednesday 13 Fan wrote: ↑Sat Mar 01, 2025 4:10 pm Depends on how you do the math...100% of the classic lineup of Motorhead is dead.

Yeah, I drew a line at bands with like a million members over the years. I meannnn if you go that route, then even L.A. Guns has 3 or 4 I think, but that's still only like 10% of the total members.Anthrax442 wrote: ↑Sun Mar 02, 2025 9:45 am
