Defenders of the faith
British steel
Screaming for vengeance
Stained class
Tough call between turbo and killing machine for number 5 (depends on my mood)

Painkiller is overrated. Have it ranked 10th (also behind point of entry, sin after sin, and sad wings of destiny).

British Steel was my first, so it’s my sentimental fave. I also really like The Best of Judas Priest, the Gull records comp of the first two albums that I also bought around the same time in 1980. I don’t own it anymore, but recreated it as a playlist, with the new remixed Rocka Rolla songs included. Not metal, more bluesy hard rock of course, but a bit under-rated. Reminds me of driving up and down Main Street in my small prairie town in my pickup truck with the Pioneer speakers behind the seat as a sixteen year old, trying to find out where the next bush party was. Ah, memories.

I had very few tapes at the time, 'cause I bought everything on LP, but one I did have was that Best of Judas Priest. So when I got a Walkman, I really wore that thing out. I still couldnt tell you how most of the Rocka Rolla songs go, but the ones on that tape i know super well. Actually, a really good grouping of songs, even if it can hardly be titled "best of judas priest"

Painkiller - My favorite metal album of all time.
Screaming for Vengeance
Defenders of the Faith
Turbo - Fuck you, I love it.

Super controversial opinion, here:
Invincible Shield - I really love this album. I don't know if it's AI or what, and I know it's scab Priest, but I love the songs. Don't know what to tell you.

I love it too, and Firepower as well. Not top 5, but their best two since Turbo.

Richie is a (metal) god, that's what's up.
As much as I'd like them to get KK back instead of skulletboy, Richie is the MVP in metal these days.

He's definitely carrying these guys, that's for sure. And Elegant Weapons is some good shit, too.

If live albums count, both Unleashed and Priest...Live should be in the top 5.

Priest always sounded better live. Croydon 1977, Nagoya 1978, San Antonio 1982, Dortmund 1983 and Gothenburg 1986 is the real top 5. They sounded awesome in 1988 too but had 4-5 songs off RID in the set. Johnny B Goode sucked live.

I don't know why I don't listen to Person of Europe more. I love most of the songs, the production is tight and minimalist is a great way. I've got a minty clean vinyl copy. Needs to be in the rotation.

Yeah, PoE is weird in that way that it has three of my absolute favorite Priest songs: DP, SA and HottH. There are some more really good songs on there, but the filler is dreadful: Don't Go, You Say Yes and On the Run. 3 of the 5 worst Priest songs before Ram It Down. (Raw Deal blows, and the very first Priest song most people heard, the first song on their first album is garbage: One for the Road)

Also, there's something that bugs me about the production. It's too dry, in particular the guitars. Guess they tried to take the metallic British Steel sound in a more rock, AC/DC or even Foreigner/Boston direction and it didn't quite work for them. So it doesn't quite make the top 5 for me even if it should based on the quality of the songs.

It's really dry, but the drums have that 'snap'. (you left out Hot Rockin', which despite a questionable chorus, has that amazing dual guitar riff & perfect KK/Glenn 'bouncy' tempo). I like that JP albums differ so much from a production perspective. Rarely the same sound twice, and all good in their own way. SFV is by far my fave where the louder it is, the better. Like a warm blanket of heaviness.
