IMO, it was beyond dirty for Spike to fuck over the band/line-up he had for almost 20 years, but the new album is great, and they do seem to have gotten back to their original vibe/style.

What was the story with the breakup exactly? How many original members were there anyway? Spike and 1 or 2 others?

There are 2 Quireboys now. Another version without Spike was touring the US with Enuff Z'nuff last year.

Pure speculation.......but IMO, Spike is/was done with a heavy touring schedule, so he pulled a passive aggressive routine and screwed over the guys he has played with for 20 years (guitarist Guy Griffin from the original Quireboys, as well as the keyboard player and 2nd guitarist who had also been in the band for almost 20 years......)

Because they had touring commitments booked in advance, the band continued without Spike (Guy Griffin took over vocals, but he is a definitely not a lead vocalist.....).

Spike touted a "reunion of the classic line-up", but the guitar player (Guy Bailey) has since passed away, and I don't think? the Keyboard player (Chris Johnston) tours with them either.....so I think it's Spike and the original bass player Nigel Moog.

The 2001 to present Quireboys (Guy Griffin line-up) have recently changed their name to Black Eyed Sons.

Spike's line-up is now the only Quireboys (and the new album is pretty good).

I watched the first half hour of that. Spike has def still got the pipes but it sounds like he's fronting a bar band half the time.
