Most Foolish Thing You've Done That Altered Your Life
Kinda wished I had picked my relationships a bit better. That always seems to be the most popular.
Also dealing with drugs . . . definitely not smart choice on my part.
Please share your thoughts and feelings. Thank you!!

Re: Most Foolish Thing You've Done That Altered Your Life
Graduated college in 1988. I didn't know any better at 21, so immediately started writing software (Math and Computer Science major) and here I am in present day still in IT. I've hated most of my career though I've done well with it. I wish I had done something I enjoyed or had a little bit of passion for. Back then, most of us didn't take risks and sequentially moved through life.
Not earth-shattering stuff, but I regret spending my entire career in the safety zone.

I would have to say it was choosing to be a heavy drinker most of my life. I quit full stop when i turned 41 ,and it’s been 13 years sober. But i will never get that missing time back with my family that i really don’t remember at all.

Missed Nelson/House Of Lords tour
Maybe that’s God way of punishing me and giving me my rockstar life

Jani Lane and Bret Michaels should form a band called "Nelson II"

Re: Most Foolish Thing You've Done That Altered Your Life
spending your entire life playing it safe. I can agree to that. I never jumped before I weighed every angle. I realize the "What if's" can kill you. I once asked my grandpa when he was about 88 if he had any regrets and he said "yes, a few". It was deep and profound the way he said it but he didn't tell me what they were and it was none of my business.
but my life? I dunno. I had a local producer when I was 15 tell me I would be rich and famous within 5 years. He was older and I thought he knew what he was saying. My young mind bought into that and never looked back. My school grades? who needed that. I just cruised thru school after that. I was on "My way". He was dead wrong and years later when I matured I realized he was just an idiot. Anyway, some regrets. Maybe not life shattering to some but to me, they weigh on me. I chased the music business from the weekends since way before that. I wasted time (years) with local players that couldn't see past the end of the night when they got paid at the local dive. my wife and I had 2 kids before we got married. We got married at 22 on Friday and I boarded a greyhound bus that following Monday (huge regret leaving) with no desire to return to KY. I did want my wife and kids to eventually follow me to LA but they wouldn't come out there. I was staying at the CCC"s in San Pedro. My overbearing Grandmother called out there after a few weeks and told them to tell me one of my kids had died. When I left she was sick so it made sense and it was horrible so I ran home only to find out luckily she was ok and it was just a ploy to get me home. I got a job after that. My kids grew up with me working during the week and being gone alot on the weekends. I missed holidays and birthdays chasing this carrot. I have been responsible and worked in the same Water field since I was 24. Still chasing the same carrot. This band has been together almost 10 years now. We have the resources and everything to tour and play fulltime but its like juggling cats so we do what we can do when we can. We also record. Just finished up recording with Anthony Focx at the console. (And what a great guy. He has some amazing stories) I know you guys bust his chops here but I see none of that. He has been the most helpful engineer/ producer etc. we have had. He is top notch and doesn't let anything be second best. I consider him a friend. But I am still chasing that carrot. We were recording at his studio in Jan. on my wedding anniversary again. I get home around 2am. Wife is way past asleep. Another important day I wasn't there for. My kids now adults are my life. They know this. but they also know I can't stop this music stuff for what ever reason. A couple of years ago we were getting ready to head to Nashville to fly out to LA. The time schedule was tight. My oldest daughter pulled up crying. She had to just put down her little doggie Lily belle she had for many years. There I am in Dad mode. She needed someone to comfort her and bury Lilly too. I couldn't. I didn't have time. She was there for me to be there for her and the music man in me had to leave. I didn't even have 15 minutes/ I had to tell her I was sorry and got in the vehicle to leave. That freakin sucked....I have had to struggle with being a dad and this music player my whole life. It is easy to say, just drop it. But its not that easy. I hate to fail. Drowning is not an option. At anything.
Drugs. Never was interested in that. Though bitd, everyone around me was doing what ever floated past them. no regrets about not doing drugs. Beer? I liked beer. Sometimes in Moderation, sometimes not, but it was usually 4 a day. Every day. Last January, me and beer broke up.
I wish I hadn't been so hard on brother. He has had drug issues off and on his whole life. I road him pretty hard over the years hoping he would be more like me and stay away from it. I finally grew up and realized I have my brother and I am happy he is here. He occasionally struggles with addiction but I am just here for him. Its not my job to ride him. I have repented for that and also asked him to forgive me.

I get it though my stuff doesn't parallel yours. Now at 58, I am trying to only look forward. Sometimes I think that with less time ahead of me than behind me, what's the use. But as they say, it's never to late to change or to start something new.

Was too lazy to look for an internship, a classmate offered me hers because she found something better, still at the company 15-20 years later.

I have picked a bunch of bad relationships, the worst thing is that in most cases I had a bad feeling early on but didn't walk away.

I owned 2 4-plexes during the financial crisis. Landlorded them for about 8-9 years, fixing bullshit, getting new tennants, and as time went on, having to dump around 15K a year into them for the privledge.
Got out of them around 2012. If I had kept them they'd prolly be worth 3-4 mil each by now and have a hefty cash flow.
i was working full time and dealing with my dad with dementia, as well as playing in multiple bands, so I just had to be out of it.
You never know what could have happened. I could have had all he tenants stop paying rent during covid. or gotten sued for something. But that's one what used to weigh on me heavily, but less so now.

When everyone was suggesting he smash out their windows, or pump fart juice into the house to drive them out, or whatever else tough talk, I smiled wistfully, remembering my own terror gypsies (3 fratboys) and knowing you cant legally do any of that shit or you'll be the one to be fucked.Nate S Axel wrote: ↑Fri Mar 21, 2025 3:12 pmWe could have had TWO threads on Terror Gypsies!HueyRamone wrote: ↑Fri Mar 21, 2025 12:19 pm You never know what could have happened. The frat boys intentionally trashed the inside when they left, including spraying ketchup and mustard everywhere. They had a pretty hefty security deposit and last month's rent, and I enjoyed calculating it all the damage pretty honestly, and writing each of the three a deposit refund check for like $6.61...

Re: Most Foolish Thing You've Done That Altered Your Life
I have one rental house. I have spent more money remodeling it every time after the tenants moved out than I made renting it. I had a manager for a couple of years that took care of it. He collected the money like clockwork. Found renters when the others moved out. I never worried about it and took the 1200 bucks every month i made. He never once went inside. the last tenants literally tore the house up. Busted holes in the walls. Knocked out all the wall plug ins. flushed a cat food pull top tab down the toilet and stopped it up and kept crapping in the toilet to over flow it and leave it. Then crapped in the shower. spray painted graffiti over most walls. Stole every light bulb and left 5 mattresses in it. I took it back after that. I am currently remodeling it again and then I am signing it over to my adult kids.HueyRamone wrote: ↑Mon Mar 24, 2025 8:12 amWhen everyone was suggesting he smash out their windows, or pump fart juice into the house to drive them out, or whatever else tough talk, I smiled wistfully, remembering my own terror gypsies (3 fratboys) and knowing you cant legally do any of that shit or you'll be the one to be fucked.Nate S Axel wrote: ↑Fri Mar 21, 2025 3:12 pmWe could have had TWO threads on Terror Gypsies!HueyRamone wrote: ↑Fri Mar 21, 2025 12:19 pm You never know what could have happened. I was born into it and knew it was not normal. Dysfunctional parents. Then you have to take care of them when they have medical issues during middle age, then when they are elderly and have life ending medical issues. They have both passed in the past 5 years. It's a different normal now.Love_Industry wrote: ↑Mon Mar 24, 2025 12:16 amSeen this many times too, some are born into it and think it's normal.risingfarce wrote: ↑Fri Mar 21, 2025 10:45 pmStaying in a toxic family environment way too long.ParaDime77 wrote: ↑Thu Mar 20, 2025 4:59 pm Staying in a toxic family business environment way too long.

I must've been through about a million girls
I'd love 'em, and I'd leave 'em alone
I didn't care how much they cried, no sir
Their tears left me cold as a stone
But then I fooled around and fell in love
I fooled around and fell in love
I fooled around and fell in love
Fooled around and fell in love
I'd love 'em, and I'd leave 'em alone
I didn't care how much they cried, no sir
Their tears left me cold as a stone
But then I fooled around and fell in love
I fooled around and fell in love
I fooled around and fell in love
Fooled around and fell in love
