I had a buddy in the ‘80s who used to tape the videos from the TV with a cassette recorder just for this reason. We’d jam them in the car and crack up at the stupid sound fx. I clearly remember the Twisted Sister video with the whoa-oh-oooooh when the guy flew down the stairs or whatever. And the smashing glass and shit like that. Whenever we’d hear them on the radio the normal way we’d do all the sound effects ourselves in unison like Rocky Horror Picture Show. To this day I hear all that stuff in my head when I hear those songs.

When I was messing with a remix of KISS’ “Turn On The Night” a while back I couldn’t believe how loud the silly lightning/electricity sound effect was. It was comical (not on purpose). Speaking of KISS, I was just discussing this topic a couple days ago with the Mrs because a certain content creator did an edit of RARAN and he used the live clip of Ace shooting a bottle rocket from his guitar and he added a sound effect that is like 3X as loud as the song and it instantly took me back to the MTV days.

If anything, I have the opposite issue. If I heard the video first with overdubbed sounds, I'm a little disappointed when I don't hear the sounds when listening to the studio version.

Not hard rock but Toby Keith did a few videos: My List, I Love this Bar, As Good as I Once Was, probably more. I get the humor but could've done without the sound interrupting the songs.

Anything with dialogue over the music. Always thought the Guido who says, "24 hours boys" in Bon Jovi "In And Out Of Love" over the music video was stupid. That being said, I don't mind dialogue before and after the tunes, just not during.
