I have a soft spot for it, and it's one of the only ballads from that era that isn't just some version of "I WANT TO LOVE YOUUUUUUUU... FOREVERRRR.... A LOT"

Yes. It’s a very solid acoustic ballad, even if it is a tad wimpy in the lyrics department.

It hasn't aged well. I might have liked it when I was 12. Some bands in the late 80s tried to make their statement to the world. Motley did it with "Time For Change".

I like White Lion but can't listen to "When the Children Cry" (and to a lesser degree "Little Fighter")......sappy, limp-wristed drivel.........

Horrible song. Truly embarrassing.

Annoying whiny voice on that one.

It's a poor man's 'Save the Weak'
Re: Poll: Do you like the song "When The Children Cry" by White Lion?
WTCC is a likeable song & I like the lyrics, same with Little Fighter. "Broken Home" is also a banger & slaps hard.
Re: Poll: Do you like the song "When The Children Cry" by White Lion?
Love you baby boo please love me too is much better than this crap:
Little child dry your crying eyes
How can I explain the fear you feel inside
'Cause you were born into this evil world
Where man is killing man and no one knows just why
What have we become just look what we have done
All that we destroyed you must build again
When the children cry let them know we tried
'Cause when the children sing then the new world begins
Little child you must show the way
To a better day for all the young
'Cause you were born for all the world to see
That we all can live with love and peace
No more presidents and all the wars will end
One united world under God
When the children cry let them know we tried
'Cause when the children sing then the new world begins
What have we become just look what we have done
All that we destroyed you must build again
No more presidents and all the wars will end
One united world under God
When the children cry let them know we tried
When the children fight let them know it ain't right
When the children pray let them know the way
'Cause when the children sing then the new world begins

That's how I feel. Is it cheesy? Absolutely!...but at least it's not just another love song.
I appreciate the song for what it is, and Vito's solo on this one is great!

My thoughts exactly, too! And it had some nice acoustic playing too other than the typical GCD chords (Heaven, Every Rose, I Remember You, etc). I like all of those songs but the point is, this one was different.MotleyKaos wrote: ↑Wed Apr 16, 2025 8:11 amThat's how I feel. Is it cheesy? "You want Don Juan DeMarco, the world's greatest lover, to talk to you? What do you know of great love?"

I still like the song. It’s a great ballad. They played it to death on radio and MTV. We always talk about Bach reuniting with SR but the one I’d pay to see is Vito Bratta and WL. Would Drummer Troy be down to play if D’Angelo declined ?
Just a regular guy who likes Metal

Can't understand how it became such a big hit. Okay they tried to give the world some message, but the music, lyrics and Mike Tramp's vocals are terrible.
Re: Poll: Do you like the song "When The Children Cry" by White Lion?
I love white lion, but that song is one of their worst.

When I think of annoying, wimpy songs from the mid to late 80s, this song is the hands down winner. There were some very good power ballads from that era, but this isn't one of them.

Re: Poll: Do you like the song "When The Children Cry" by White Lion?
this is obviously the right answer
It's good to be bad
It's the best time you'll ever have
What the hell is this ultra sad
Pray for your cool and work on that ass!

Great song...
Never knew any of the guys back in the day... but, over the years met Greg D'Angelo a few times, was always a good guy.
Met James LoMenzo as well, but briefly... 30+ years ago... don't recall much, but... he seems to continue to find himself work... also seems like a good guy.
Never met the guitarist, who seems to have been hiding in his Mom's house for the last 3 decades... oh well.
As for Tramp... had a few interactions with him in recent years, and could NOT have been a nicer guy!
Kudos to him for carrying on, and he seems to have a very good head on his shoulders... |
He eserves all of the good things that come his way!
Fun Fact: Their official debut came out in 1986 on Grand Slamm Records... which Tuff signed with in 1993 after Atlantic dropped us.
But... Grand Slamm was distributed by IRS Records, who was at the time (1993/1994) about to go out of business, which essentially left GS without proper distribution.
Then, the label's President Brian McEvoy took a job at Mercury Records in early 1994, which then left Tuff "label-less" again.
It was at this point, where I said; "F#@k this... I am doing it myself! Record Labels Suck!"
Then I formed RLS Records in the spring of 1994...
Here is an article about McEvoy from April 1994, taking his new job, and thus, abandoning his indy label.

This song is the very reason that album went Double Platinum.
It hit #3 in the U.S., #2 in Canada and #7 in Sweden.

"Wait" definitely helped as a first single, I'd say, though truthfully a lot of those hair metal albums have a ballad to thank for going platinum. The "panty wetters" as Joey Allen called them.MetalSludgeCEO wrote: ↑Thu Apr 17, 2025 3:56 pmThis song is the very reason that album went Double Platinum.
