Jeff McDonald says, Motley Crue was NO WAVE
This is really funny. Redd Kross and Tom Scharpling goofing on Vince Neil. (4 months ago. I may have even posted this already.)

(Not trying to Chipsplain to y'all re: NO WAVE but I get the impression the majority of posters here like music that has melody and structure and may not be familiar with Teenage Jesus and the Jerks. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/No_wave)

Vince's Cameos! That was a good day on Sludge.
"'Sup Decker!! *burp*" and the dude's name was Derek.
$400!! And he gets the name wrong.
Honestly, if someone got me $400 Vince Neil Cameo and he was like "Hey Chuck," I'd probably cry because it meant someone really knew me and knew exactly what I wanted for a gift, and just in life.

Re: Jeff McDonald says, Motley Crue was NO WAVE
I was laughing the other day at how frequently Vince tries and abjectly fails at high pitch screamed notes on the Too Fast For Love record. It's hard to imagine somebody in the recording studio didn't point it out and maybe tried to suggest a way around it or something, even if it was just repeated do-overs.
Goes without saying it's a funny notion because no wavers wouldn't piss on Motley if they were on fire.

absolutely hilarious, and amazingly accurate!!
It's good to be bad
It's the best time you'll ever have
What the hell is this ultra sad
Pray for your cool and work on that ass!

So No Wave is like New Wave, but even more pretentious and less popular? Is that it?

Ha. New wave was like punk but nicer, you could bring those records home and not cause too much trouble.Bono Nettencourt wrote: ↑Fri May 09, 2025 2:00 pm So No Wave is like New Wave, but even more pretentious and less popular? Is that it?
No wave is the other direction, just a total deconstruction of music.
But the last part, yeah, dead on.

I've loved that movie since I was a kid. Watched it fairly recently; bought it digitally on Amazon.SeniorGrande wrote: ↑Fri May 09, 2025 4:10 pm Subject change:

I think it's great and the McDonald brothers are hilarious in it.
I sort of thought for the longest time that they were like their characters but they actually don't even like Grand Funk Railroad. A real mindblower that they were ACTING.

Also, the story behind the "Paul Stanley" vocals on "1976" is pretty funny.
That was just for fun. [Guitarist] Robert [Hecker] always did a great Paul Stanley impersonation and we liked to create our own mythology. My brother was really good at that. So we went as far as to thank Paul Stanley on the record. It was just good fun to confuse people further. It’s been notated in interviews now that Robert did his voice, but we didn’t give him credit for that on the record. We just thanked Paul Stanley, which led people to believe he did the singing. We didn’t want to leave Robert’s talent unmined.

In their book, the brothers said Hecker would crack them up on tour by sing random songs, like "Wildfire," in Paul Stanley's voice.Chip Z'Hoy wrote: ↑Sat May 10, 2025 5:29 am Also, the story behind the "Paul Stanley" vocals on "1976" is pretty funny.

Always a delight when the 'never made its' drag the 'made it big' guys. Yeah, Vince is low hanging fruit. And Motley is a shell of itself. But Red Kross is just any other band (and I like some of their tunes). Why not dog Kik Tracee while you're at it? Somebody your own level, pricks. Lol
We've all experienced guys like the interviewer. From Wiki:
In his late teens, Scharpling had a mental breakdown that led him to be checked in to a mental hospital; his condition was cured with electroconvulsive therapy, which led to some memory loss.[7]
Yeah, there's a shock.

This. Vince is an easy target (and deserves it), but Redd Kross is a D-Level band in whatever shit genre they belong in.Tyketto Meniketti wrote: ↑Sun May 11, 2025 3:16 am Always a delight when the 'never made its' drag the 'made it big' guys. I love Redd Kross so I was about to get a case of the ass with you two ("Nuh-uh! YOU are that!") because I was like "They're just doing what we do here!"
But if Motley's fair game, so is Kross. As you were, gentlemen.

Saw Jellyfish perform "Joining a Fanclub" during an in-store record shop appearance and they shit on Kiss, which is what the song's about.
I love Jellyfish, but I had a similar reaction... Even shitty '90s Kiss is more successful.
