Metallica sold out when they had a bass solo on KEA. Or acoustic guitars on RTL. Or signed with Elektra for MOP. Or made the One video for AJFA. Metallica is one of the most consistently selling out, commercially driven band in metal. If you don't like that you should try another band....

What? So "Rio" was your jam, but "Union of the Snake" was a bridge too far?
Yeah I'm glad someone else picked up on that. Seven and the Ragged Tiger was not regarded as some big departure or notable drop in quality by a lot of people. TravisBicklesMohawk's opinion seems unusual, but I don't visit Duran Duran boards so I don't know for certain.
I could see maybe checking out after Notorious, I pretty much did, but SATRT? The Reflex alone makes the record great.

Judas Priest - First time: "Ram It Down" sucked. Second time: "Nostradamus". Final: No KK.

Goo Goo Dolls - Strike one: "Let Love In" sucked. Strike two: "Something For The Rest Of Us" sucked. Done.

Boston - Didn't like "Third Stage". Stopped following them.

Black Sabbath - After DIo was out (all times), I had no interest.

DIO - Don't like Goldy. Didn't like "Dream Evil". Done.

Ozzy - Don't like Wylde. Didn't like "No Rest For The Wicked". Done.

Styx - No Dennis, no Styx.

Journey - When Schon fired Augeri, I was done.

Ace Frehley - "Trouble Walkin'" was the last lp I purchased. Hated that he was back in KISS. Had no interest in him after he left KISS again.

Elton John - When he fired Dee Murray and Nigel Olsson. "Blue Moves" is terrible. I liked "Rock Of The Westies" when it was released, but not anymore (with the exceptions of "Island Girl" and "Grow Some Funk Of Your Own"). I do like a dozen or so songs after "Blue Moves", but I only have "Too Low For Zero" and "Reg Strikes Back".

Van Halen - Done when "1984" was released.

Bruce Dickinson - "Tyranny Of Souls" wasn't good, plus no Adrian. Lost interest.

Mr. Big - No Paul Gilbert, no interest. Didn't purchase the last cd "Ten", because Eric's voice is done and the first few songs released were terrible.

Queensryche - "Hear In The Now Frontier" sucked. Didn't like "Promised Land" either. Done until Todd was hired.

KISS - "Psycho Circus" era. Passed on the cd and tour. Wasn't happy circa 1996 to 2003.

The Cure - Didn't like "Wild Mood Swings" (except for "Mint Car"). Didn't like "Bloodflowers" at all. That was the last cd I purchased.
Damn, that' a lot of wallet closing.

My first exposure to Prefab Sprout was "hot dog, jumping frog" when that was a hit. Then years later, I heard "Appetite" on an '80s blue-eyed soul playlist and it hit me: this band is cool.

Motorhead., Rocknroll was their first paint by numbers record. The original popular line up although not the first
Was the Best Lem, fast eddie and philthy. Those albums are perfect. After that it was down hill .

Same here, I first heard King Of Rock' n'Roll when it was a hit, but didn't like it then. Some years later I heard Appetite and really got into the band. They've been my favourite band about the last 30 years.

Ozzy Ultimate Sin, Def Leppard Hysteria. Neither did a thing for me.

In the 90's when all the hard rock bands went grunge or alternative.

Warrant with Ultraphobic and Belly to Belly
LA Guns with American Hardcore
Danger Danger Dawn
Enuff Znuff Tweaked
Def Leppard Slang
Motley Swine

I actually liked some of the songs but I hated it in general. It was just like "what are you doing guys? it's so obvious this is not the real you."
"You want Don Juan DeMarco, the world's greatest lover, to talk to you? What do you know of great love?"

Lost interest in my 3 favorite bands due to:

Motley Crue - combination of the lethargic/completely indifferent "live" shows (starting in 2010 +/-), the total garbage they have released (Dirt Soundtrack, Cancelled EP), and the addition of John 5.

KISS - Paul's voice quitting the band in 2005, and the lethargic/completely indifferent "live" shows (starting in 2010 +/-)

Guns N" Roses - Not interested in the current "soulless cash grab"/scab line-up, the total garbage they have released (Axl's solo album, and Hard Skool), and Axl's (current lack of) voice being beyond cringe inducing / douche chills "bad"........

But you still enjoy listening to their classic material?

He does. His UYI mix is one of the best I've seen.

It's absolutely idiotic to contend Zep weren't A-listers in the 1970s.

It was more of a catalyst but I remember being really disappointed in the s/t Alice In Chains album in 1995 and pretty much losing interest in music for a few years. It was less about that particular album, which I really love now and more about my mental state at the time. It took about three years and two albums in particular, Boggy Depot by Jerry Cantrell and The Elephant Riders by Clutch to reignite my love of music. Flash forward 27 years, and I love music more than ever. I'm the old guy at the shows I go to now and it's fucking great because there are a lot of us.

So you needed Alice without the chains.
