1988 Geezer back with Ozzy, was it a big deal for Sabbath fans back then?
When Geezer and Ozzy reunited for the 1988 tour, was that a big deal for Ozzy fans?
Who called who? and why did they part again? Would have been cool if they recorded a full album!

They tried to make it a big deal... but that album blew.

Yes, it was weird that he did not play on the next album, after the tourBono Nettencourt wrote: ↑Wed Jun 18, 2025 2:53 pm They tried to make it a big deal... but that album blew.

I thought it was a lot better than The Ultimate Sin... hell, I think I like it more than NMT.Bono Nettencourt wrote: ↑Wed Jun 18, 2025 2:53 pm They tried to make it a big deal... but that album blew.

The other thing to consider back then was that Black Sabbath was sooooo far gone from the collective mainstream interest that it wouldnt have mattered if Ozzy had hired Iommi himself. Sabbath hadn't been bona fide arena headliners in 5 years and that was an eternity then. Sabbath were on par with bands like Metal Church, Armored Saint, Saxon and Raven by 1988. Think about how Tony had Geezer and Ward back in the band in 1994 and it wasn't even a blip. That was like that.Z28 wrote: ↑Wed Jun 18, 2025 3:29 pmYes, it was weird that he did not play on the next album, after the tourBono Nettencourt wrote: ↑Wed Jun 18, 2025 2:53 pm They tried to make it a big deal... but that album blew.

As odd as it sounds, even though I was fully aware of the Black Sabbath connection, Geezer just seemed like such an OLD guy to be in Ozzy's band.

I thought it was cool but no, it wasn’t a big deal. And like so many on here say, Sabbath were washed up at the time. They made KISS look like The Stones.
Geezer went back to Sabbath and they eventually released Dehumanizer with Dio.
I wish Ozzy had kept Bob or Geezer on bass. Keeping Lee on drums would have been a big improvement too.
He and his band seemed drunk and bloated at the Moscow Music Peace Festival. Lee probably would
have appeared that way too had he been there.
As much as I respect Zakk, he’s my least favorite Ozzy guitarist. Randy and Jake or go home

No.
Ozzy was sort of a heavy metal circus ringleader of a band of young players. Bringing back an "old guy" like Geezer was weird. All eyes were on Zakk anyway.

To me and my high school buddies at the time it was a big deal.

Why? Do you remember the interviews in magazines like Circus or Hit Parader at the time?TREVERLAST wrote: ↑Thu Jun 19, 2025 12:51 pm To me and my high school buddies at the time it was a big deal.
Wouldn't it have been cool if they had written some songs together?

A little raw, but I like it:

Geezer joining up wasn't a "big deal" at the time, but everyone seemed to think it helped the lineup. I liked the Just Say Ozzy live EP that came out of it.
The late '80s. When acts like Ozzy, Scorpions and Kiss were having platinum albums, but still "over the hill" and in a down period. "Old" men in their '30s.

Look at it from Zakk's perspective. At first he was probably 'Fuck! I get to play with Ozzy!' And then when Geezer joined, he was probably 'Fuck! I get to jam with half of Black Sabbath!'

The population explosion would be less of a problem if lighting the fuse didn't feel so good.

I don't even remember how we found out. I'd guess it would have been the magazines or maybe I heard about it on KNAC 105.5. People sometimes forget that we got a lot of our Metal info from radio back then & their syndicated shows like Metalshop & Rockline.Z28 wrote: ↑Sun Jun 22, 2025 7:40 amWhy? Also after some research right now I don't even remember him playing on Ozzmosis & having a couple of writing credits on that album

I am a huge Sabbath/Ozzy fan and it didn't register at all with me, I don't remember any buzz or even hearing about it.
It's good to be bad
It's the best time you'll ever have

I remember buying the "Just Say Ozzy" ep from the cutout bin for like $2.

Pretty sure HBB mentioned it as Geezer was in the promo videos from the album.TREVERLAST wrote: ↑Sun Jun 22, 2025 3:00 pmI don't even remember how we found out.
