Just got back from Lisbon
Just spent 10 "Mattley Money Bitches" days with the nicest people, low prices, zero horns, stress, traffic, hurried pace, etc...As Mazda Mattley would say, has anyone been to Lisbon?

Re: Just got back from Lisbon
You must be from LA, the traffic in Lisbon is terrible and people who work inside the city spend several hours in their commute. It's not Rome or anything, but still pretty bad there. I can tell when someone is from Lisbon from the way they drive when they come down here, stressed little cunts.
Less and less so for the locals. I hope you at least had the decency of not tipping waiters.

Re: Just got back from Lisbon
The wife and I are going to be in Portugal for a fortnight from next Saturday, though only spending the last day in Lisbon. Heading north, so going by "down here" we won't be in your territory. First time visiting, have heard nothing but good things except for the insane city traffic (not going to drive in Porto either) and all the 'digital nomads' and AirB+Bs pricing locals out of the housing market. We're not the first and aren't using the 2nd.mullet_head wrote: ↑Sat Jun 14, 2025 7:24 pmYou must be from LA, the traffic in Lisbon is terrible and people who work inside the city spend several hours in their commute. speaking of waiters, can't think of one meal where we didn't have to track down the waiter to ask for the check.mullet_head wrote: ↑Sat Jun 14, 2025 7:24 pmYou must be from LA, the traffic in Lisbon is terrible and people who work inside the city spend several hours in their commute. Cocoa Beach, however, I really wasn't on any major highways during rush hour.

Yeah, there's no hurry. Enjoy, take your time, have a conversation with whomever is on your table. The waiter will show up eventually..
Not so easy to find a restaurant opem at 6 pm though, is it?

My territory is where people come for summer. It will be crowded in the upcoming weeks.GoodJudge wrote: ↑Sat Jun 14, 2025 11:32 pm The wife and I are going to be in Portugal for a fortnight from next Saturday, though only spending the last day in Lisbon. The North is actually nicer in my opinion. Check out Aveiro, Guimarães (the castle is from the year 900 or domething like that), Ponte de Lima. Braga has a good amount of Roman vestiges you might like to visit. ,Coimbra is technically in the center, but it's a nice College city, with one of the oldest unis in Europe. My grandmothet studied Romanics there.
If you're into surfing and giant waves, you should try Nazaré. If not, meh.
Enjoy your holidays.

Re: Just got back from Lisbon
Yes, I've been to Portugal twice, liked it a lot. When we were in Lisbon, it was about 40 celsius, nice city but very hot then.

Re: Just got back from Lisbon
Obrigado. Aveiro is already on our list, Braga is a possible, Nazare isn't because I've read the really big wave season is later in the year and we don't care about surfing anyway. Will have a look at the others. We have 5 days yet to plan, which we'll probably decide when we get there.mullet_head wrote: ↑Sun Jun 15, 2025 12:29 pmMy territory is where people come for summer. Re: Just got back from Lisbon
I wouln't skip Braga if I'm in the region. You can google it to see what interests you the most. I haven't been there in 20 plus years, but it was always one of my favourites northern cities. The Bom Jesus do Monte is a UNESCO heritage site now, but there are other cool places to see in the historical centre.

Re: Just got back from Lisbon
Checking in from the beautiful old town in Braga, about to get lunch then see the Bom Jesus. I wasn't planning on driving this far north but it's definitely been worth the effort. Thanks for the tip. Excellent country so far, the only downside is the aggressive driving. Portuguese love to tailgate, even if you're already doing the speed limit and there's an overtaking lane they can use. Plus I'm doing 100% of the driving so haven't been able to drink as much of the superb wine as I'd like.mullet_head wrote: ↑Mon Jun 16, 2025 11:26 amI wouln't skip Braga if I'm in the region. Told ya, man. Braga is an underrated city, for sure, with a very interesting history. I hear it's full of Brazilians now, which can be annoying if you like peace and quiet, or a blessing if you like sex on the first date.
Aggressive driving is definitely a thing in the bigger cities, which is why I was surprised by cowpins' observation regarding ''zero horns, stress, traffic, hurried pace'' in Lisbon of all places.
You're probably messing up on the roundabouts so let's call it even.
