Your worst movie theater experience’s?

Post by ParaDime77 »

Going to the movies in the previous years growing up in the 80s 90s did not result into any theater drama especially here in North Dakota. That was until….

The movie “Frailty” feat Bill Paxton debuted in theaters in 1999. It was then my roommate and l decided to check it out. Previews rolled in the theater as normal and there was less than 20 people in the theater as the movie had been around for a week or two. Around 45 minutes into the show there were a group of teenagers, 17/18 years old, watching the movie and one of the guys in the group started talking rather loud and eventually yelling out loud. At first we thought it was random and then he decided to announce after people try to shush him about quieting down. “I’m on Mushrooms, what do you expect me to do!? “ then subsequently went from the bottom row of seats to nearly the top row running over the top of the seats yelling out loud. A few couples split after this happened. The theater employee eventually entered the room after obvious complaints of this guys behavior and told everybody to leave the theater. We were given tickets for another free show as this absolute clown ruined this movie.

Not bc of other people. Single White Female. Was having an aural migraine during the movie and got violently sick. Barely made it out the emergency exit before projectile vomiting. Haven’t seen the end of the movie to this day or had a migraine so severe.

Haven’t been to a theater since 2018 or 19. Don’t miss it. Watching at home is far better.

Circa 20 years ago my wife and I went to the cinema and picked a movie at random. It turned out to be an Adam Sandler film. We walked out after 10 minutes. I still haven't got over the shame of people seeing us pay real money and voluntarily walk in to see that crud.

I took my kids to see Lord Of The Rings in an old towns tiny theatre. It had one screen , maybe 150 seats and an old ass sound system. It was far from ideal , but it was OK to start.. i soon realized that the locals were allowed to bring in food from home , because they only sold popcorn at the matinee show. The woman behind us pulled out a bag of carrots and celery to munch on. Of course with the shit ass sound system this was all i could hear. The guy two down was slurping on some stinky soup from a thermos..
we left half way through…it was pretty brutal.

These stories remind me why I rarely go to the cinema these days. With such large televisions and films hitting streaming sites a couple of months after release, there is very little point in the movie experience at the cinema these days.

Exactly why I don't go anymore. My family room tv is 70" or so (modest compared to the 100+ inch screens out now), sound is decent on my soundbar and speakers, nothing beats being able to pause to take a piss or grab food. And, there is nothing I can't wait a couple of months extra to hit streaming services. Or, I start something, decide it's not worth the time, and bail on it.

I tend to expect less-than-good experiences these days. People can't not look at their phones for 90 minutes.

I remember seeing The Terminator with a large black audience.

They freaked out about a white man that couldn’t die.

They were screaming at the screen yelling all kinds of shit.

In 1998, I saw The Mask of Zorro in Douglas, Az. It was a "theater" where they projected the movie on the inside of a conex box and had church pew seats. No AC, but they did have some loud-ass fans. It was dubbed in Spanish with English subtitles. As an 11 year old kid, I was still in heaven, so I guess I can't claim it was my worst experience.

I went to see Schindler's List when the movie was still new. For some reason in some small town like Vänersborg or Trollhättan, I must have visited someone there. The movie was great and theatre ok but what made it the worst theatre experience was the teenage couple in front of us.

They were making out like crazy for at least half the movie. A movie about concentration camps but it didn't ruin their mood. I was more pissed at them than at the movie nazis.

I understand being 17 and making out at the movies but wtf, pick a better movie!

The Sixthe Sense in about 2000? There was an old guy and I guess his wife? He was confused as to what was going on, and his wife was trying to fill him in. Didn't add to the ambience.

The Dark Knight Rises at a 10 PM showing. There were kids running around, I finally got so pissed I turned around to send an angry glare to the parents. The big black dad shot me back a glare indicating that I had to deal with it. THUG LIFE

Both my ex's used to drive me crazy by always dragging me to the movies. Its very rare I want to go I hate having to sit still that long. Especially the first one because he was a couch potato so watching shit and eating was all he wanted to do. Making me sit through W for 3 frigging hours was especially taxing. Seriously, fuck that movie. Second one was at least more accommodating and took me to 2nd run theaters that served beer and had a more laid back vibe. Although he would pull shit like ripping a silent but deadly during the climax. So glad I'm not obligated to do this crap any more. Although I am tempted to see the new Jurassic Park.
