I sure hope it’s a different one. PD is on of my all-time faves on here and he still never cashed in on all his kickass RnR stories including the Mick/Bob stuff. That’s a book I’d read. I haven’t seen him here in quite a while so if he posted this month I missed it.

40s. I got to do some spectacular travel, business travel, and concert-going during that time. But it's also when I faced down cancer, had my wife leave us, kept taking care of the kids, and saw oldest son nearly die of a congenital heart condition. It was really something.

Don't mean to disappoint anyone...but I ain't croaked yet!
I'm alive & well, now living in Fernandina Beach FL (the obit that was posted was my dad).
I've experienced highs & lows in every decade...but for me (at 75 yrs old), this is absolutely the best so far.
I finally retired from my real estate broker career last year, after selling off all 16 rental houses I amassed since closing down my swimming pool construction business in 2009.
These days, I spend all my time going for long walks on the beach with my wife of 38 years, & banging on my axes, & recording in my home studio.
I'm back to being a full time musician, writing new songs & playing my guitars, basses, synthesizers, drums, & singing with my wife, every day.
We now have over 100 songs on YT, & we've started a fun series of animated short Reels built around some of the best moments from our favorite recordings.

I still think my very best song is somewhere out there in front of me.
My advice to anyone worried about aging: Hang in there, don't give up, & be happy!

Definitely my 20s. Did my most stupid but fun shit. Went to college twice. Hooked up with a few of the low-key/quiet girls from my HS who got hot 5-10 years after, had a couple fun jobs, fucked off and basically "got started" in many ways in life.

30s were okay, up and down. Actually got in the best shape of my life at 33 but had a late start on a "real" job and dealt with several layoffs. So my portfolio sucks now and I have zero chance at retirement.

40s haven't been great so far (45 now). Lost my brother a couple years ago, parents are getting older which is hard to see. Doing fine professionally, paying my bills, in good shape/work out 5 days a week. But my mental health is in the tank. Not feeling fulfilled whatsoever. Therapy only helps so much.

But I have music, beer, friends and funny places like Sludge so I'm doing fine, I guess.

What led to the beginning at 26 and what led to the ending at 36?

At 26 I had several killer girlfriends (all at the same time), opportunities to travel with rock acts and a real feeling of adventure in my life.
At 36, I was burned out on the traveling, and returned to my home town to settle down. The settling down lasted about 6 months and I began traveling again, this time with Hispanic acts. Some of those gigs were the most satisfying times of my life. Part of it came from mixing bands with horn sections. I LOVED that. It takes a special sense to mix horns properly. It's called building the pyramid, which I learned from touring with bands like Tower Of Power and a regional artist named Al Hurricane. My first weekend with Al involved playing gigs in a ballroom in Denver, a Catholic church hall in Salt Lake City, Texas Stadium (a fest) and another fest on the same day at the Astrodome. I previously had no idea a local act was playing such varried venues.
I did the Latino act thang for about 10 years, so I guess I should have said my bestest times were from 26 to 46.
I freelanced for bands, promoters and sound/backline companies.

Good to see you, PD. I do miss your detailed stories. they were always a highlight around here. If you never write a book, you should consider a blog or maybe doing a podcast or two if you haven’t already. You are an encyclopedia of knowledge and experience and an eyewitness to a very long and exciting period of RnR history. Plus, unlike so many musicians, you actually remember it all.

And less of that now? There have always been some great players in Latin acts, including the rock bands. In fact, some the best rock bands I've ever seen were Santa Sabina and La Barranca (from Guadalajara and Mexico City). They could get it done. Santa Sabina sometimes had horns and/or cello (!) in there so it would have been an adventure for live sound. Always thought they sounded good. The singer would give Diamanda Galas a run for her money but with much greater melodic sense. She knew when to peel off of the wild stuff and put forth a song. (RIP, Rita)

This is a tough question. I guess I would go with my 20s. The beginning of it was spent in college, hanging out with my best friends every day and having a blast. I then started a career and made some good new friends. My 40s would have probably been my answer, as most it was awesome, but both of my parents and my only brother passed away which was hard. So far, I am 3 1/2 years into my 50s and it has been great. I imagine with retirement in this decade, this one will end up being my best as long as my health stays good.
