RIP ... WKRP in Cincinnati star Loni Anderson, Dead at 79

Post by MetalSludgeCEO »

Damn... who is next?

Her bday is Tuesday, she would have turned 80.

---------------------------------

Loni Anderson Dead at 79

Loni Anderson, who starred on "WKRP in Cincinnati" and was once married to the late Burt Reynolds, is dead.

The actress died Sunday at a Los Angeles hospital following what her longtime publicist, Cheryl J. Kagan, told the AP was a "prolonged" illness. The official cause of death is unclear.

In a statement to the AP, Loni's family says ... "We are heartbroken to announce the passing of our dear wife, mother and grandmother."

Loni played the sexy and smart receptionist Jennifer Marlowe on "WKRP In Cincinnati" ... a well-known TV show back in the late 70s and early 80s about a struggling Ohio radio station.

She was married to Burt for 5 years before a nasty divorce that officially ended in 1993 when Burt agreed to pay Loni $234,794.13. They got hitched after starring together in the 1983 comedy flick, "Stroker Ace."

Loni also had a role in "A Night at The Roxbury" as Barbara Butabi, the mother of two dimwitted brothers played by Will Ferrell and Chris Kattan.

She was 79 ... and her death comes just days before what would have been her 80th birthday.

RIP

Judging from his recent performance at Bert's show, Vince could be number 3. RIP in silicone heaven, Loni...

I know. Probably rubbed off a few more to Bailey Quarters, played by Jan Smithers, but Loni was cool. RIP.

Yes, she was. Pre-internet, even pre-VCR, one had limited self-help options, and those included after school rerun legends: Jennifer and Bailey on WKRP, Mary Ann and Ginger on Gilligan's Island, Marcia on the Brady Bunch, and Agent Ninety-nine on Get Smart.

Marilyn Monroe had them, so yeah before that. Just wasn't commonplace like now.

What kind of jams did WKRP play?

Sabbath? Ted Nugent? Kiss? BoC? Steely Dan? Was it payola yet or did the DJs just smoke weed and throw on any old vinyl that was laying around?!

Pretty cool list of tunes. I don't remember Atomic Punk by VH but this list says it was played on the shows first season

All of the above. The music they played was pretty great, and they had cool posters too. In fact, it created problems when Shout Factory put out DVDs because the rights had expired.

Always liked how Loni Anderson played the smart blonde on WKRP. Would've been much easier for the writers to go in the opposite direction.

I have a vague memory of Queen being played on that show. I imagine the rights for that today would be insane.

I actually worked for a family-owned AM station ~1990 that paid their young blonde business manager more than any of the talent, including the morning man/PD. She was not nearly as hot.

Nell Carter didn't make the cut. (Neither did Alice from the Brady Bunch.) The one I did forget was Barbara Eden, who played Jeannie. An unforgivable omission.

Way too far back. They would have been perfect for those with a thing for black and white MILF/GILF action. Those ladies were in their forties when I Love Lucy was on the air, and in their fifties for The Lucy Show. Both of them deserve a lot of credit for being pioneers in female TV comedy.

She was a little rotund for my tastes, not to mention pushing 60 when Good Times finally got cancelled.
