That was the fun thing about concerts in the late 80s and early 90s. Girls put on their slutty clothes that they'd never wear to school.

Just had another Odin day in 2025
Fasterpussy Cat 1987 is awesome
You combine that with Odin life- that’s winning everyday!

Woke up at 11am- noticed today is Friday-awesome WWE tv day
Neighbor hot 27 year old Starbucks girl made me breakfast burrito and few blueberry muffins from a donut place
Went to the beach- beach walk 1 mile to sand-perfect distance

Listened to few Babylon AD CDs on IPhone past 1992
Hey good stuff still
Had small order lasagna-large order Onion Rings-water

Read few websites people crying about WWE going to ESPN for 30$ month

Arrived at Whisky for Babylon AD in 2025..Eddie Vedder lied
Fun crowd- did my fav Take The Dog Off The Chain
Left strip club (female)at 2:45 am
Nice to hear waves again
Might gp to Vegas for Ghost in 10 hours or so or not
Thanks Odin..everyday is fun
Jani Lane and Bret Michaels should form a band called "Nelson II"

I just watched it for the first time.

Great and interesting snap shot of the era. Looked like fun.

I don't think anyone comes across looking too bad. A few daft things are said, but as others have said, nothing that outrageous when you're young. Paul and Gene do come across a bit too try hard. Lemmy is hilarious with pretty much everything he says. But he's British so not surprised.

I did a quick list of people I know in the movie, and I can count about 10 people who are now gone!

Crazy how time creeps up!

Ozzy Osbourne = RIP (July 22nd 2025)
Lizzie Grey (London) = RIP (August 5th 2019)
Lemmy Kilmister (Motorhead) = RIP (Dec. 28th 2015)

Tawn Mastery (KNAC) = RIP (Oct. 2nd 2007)
Bill Gazzarri (Gazzarri’s) = RIP (March 13th 1991)
Sandy Holmes (Chris’ Mom) = RIP * I am pretty sure she's gone or she is 90-100 somewhere sitting next to a pool in France?

Rik Fox & Tommy John = RIP Tommy (June 4th 2019)
Rustee Casanova = RIP (2009)
Bretty Boy = RIP

The guy next to Rik Fox, Tommy, died in a car crash in 2019.

Also, the blond dude with the massive hair, chewing gum, spaced teeth, that is Bretty Boy, from the Bay Area, heard he died a while ago too!

His buddy Tommy, is the Asian guy with the Sun Glasses, who has a few lines, I recently learned he is a Pastor, or a Priest!

Also, Rustee Casanova, for all you local Hollywood peeps from the hey day!

My guess is there are others gone as well!

Fablalumia! I forgot about The Velvet Rope, it was great. IIRC, Jimi Lalumia was a legend. I remember Sal the Stockbroker brought up his name on the Stern Show. I guess he owned a popular record store on Long Island & was the go to guy for music. Did you join the "Walrus Life Board" when TVR imploded?

I think it's a great movie. From what I remember about the time (I was just starting middle school in '88 mind you) people were just happier. It may look moronic now, but it was just better vibes back then. Also, consider that the Sunset Strip and metal at that moment were the biggest things going in the music world. There is nothing today that is it's equivalent. Music doesn't have the same value to the youth today that it did back then. Also, being in a "movie" back then was a bigger deal because there weren't video cameras literally everywhere like there are today nor was there a platform like YouTube. So yes, people are going to act a little bit silly. I remember watching it in '97 with my drummer friend who I used to play guitar with and when we saw all the people saying that they were definitely going to make it we understood exactly where they were coming from because you had to have that mindset. Otherwise why even bother? Like others here are saying, it was a really good and accurate snapshot of a great era. There is nothing even close to a scene like that today and that is unfortunate.

Also, Chris Holmes' scene was fucking awesome!

The post a few above me made me about shit when they were listing the ages of the people at the time of the movie. I cannot believe I am 8 years older than Ozzy was, or Gene and Paul, or Steven and Joe, and 3 years older than Lemmy was. That is very depressing man.

Yes, he went to an asylum and got clean for that record, and that record only. He then proceeded to be fucked up for the next 5 years. He even refers to the early 80s albums as the "Blackout" albums, because he says he has no recollection of recording them. If you want to see him especially fucked up, there's an interview with him out there on Tom Snyder from 1982.

He didn't get clean until 1985, with his comeback starting with doing guest vocals on Be Chrool To Your Scuel for Twisted Sister on Come Out and Play, which led into his own album in 1986.

So, no, he had only been sober about three years when Decline was shot.

1 and 3 are about Punk. I tried to watch 1 and couldn't make it through. It's about low-level garage punk bands...and bands like Black Flag and the Germs.

I always wondered what it was that made them finally realize they weren't going to be rock stars and gave up. They sure wanted it and in some cases expected it. That Jaded Lady woman had a real job and probably decided her time was better spent persevering there instead. The guys were unemployed or under employed and fully depending on making it. You can only mooch off girlfriends for so long. Did they finally realize they weren't that good? Did they make too many enemies? That scene had its fair share of drama. Did they see themselves on this movie and felt they made an ass out of themselves? Some participants must be embarrassed about how they came off in this movie. Probably got a ton of shit for it and maybe still do every now and then.

EuroJR wrote: Wed Aug 06, 2025 2:52 pm My random thoughts:

Nearly all the younger ones were completely idiots, no wonder most of them never made it.
The veterans seemed to handle the interviews much better (Ozzy, G&P, Lemmy, Steven&Joe...)
Even the drunk Holmes of W.A.S.P. seemed sympathetic compared to the giggling bimbos (both girls and boys).

Poison guys were ultra annoying, almost as bad as Odin and London morons.
I missed who were the 2 fat chicks? Did they seriously think to make it big? (career, not the bodies)

Really they couldn't bring more people to the "live" shows? Not the production team neither the band telling their friends "Please come everybody, we're gonna be in the movie..."? The live shows seemed bogus and staged and there were only like 50 people there. Megadeth performing and having a line of stagedivers.. jumping on the empty spaces of the audience

I no more wonder why Lizzy Borden never made it bigger
Odin thought he's gonna be "bigger than DLR"... maybe he should have taken some singing lessons! Is he still alive? He promised to kill himself if he wouldn't be a big star.

What a punch of dorks.

Made me wonder. Maybe it was not a grunge that killed hair metal. Maybe it was this movie.

Chris Holmes came off like a buffoon. Rumor has it, Chris’s bit was largely staged.

As has been mentioned, Ozzy’s orange juice spill was staged. He came off slightly better but not much.

Alice Cooper comes off like a dusty old fart. Bitter at the world that everyone “stole” from him. Like he was so original.

Paul Stanley came off like a fake who paid models to lay in bed with him. Gene just comes off like a dirty old man.

Steven Tyler sounds drunk to me and thinks he and his band are way better than they ever were. Aerosmith never had a great reputation as a live band, especially in the 70s. If you watch old live performances they mostly sound like shit.

Lemmy comes off cool and having no f*cks to give. It made me a fan.

I thought and still think Poison came off the best. They were entertaining, funny, self-depreciating and didn’t take sh*t

The Vixen girls came off awesome and they were hot. It’s too bad they didn’t get along. They were a good band.

Stevie and Michael come off really well. Very level headed and laser focused. Unlike some of the other clowns like “Tommy Rod” and “Wet Cherry Guy”

London were not a good band. Ever.

Odin were buffoons but they were a tight band. Jeff is an awesome guitarist. Randy couldn’t sing? He sounded just like Axl Rose. They weren’t as cool as GNR nor could they write songs. But I think Randy sounds a lot like Axl.

Lizzy Borden came off very professional and very level headed. He and his band sounded better than most. Lizzy were a top shelf band back then. Visual Lies is a classic. They should’ve made it.

Faster Pussycat came off cynical and slightly bitter but they were a good band. They were very young and sounded better than many of their idols like Aerosmith, The Dolls and Hanoi.

Seduce were another band who were extremely good musicians. They were thrashy but melodic. They came off well.

There were a lot of great bands and musicians who weren’t interviewed. Guns N Roses, LA Guns, Warrant, Shark Island, Racer X, Angora, Kik Tracee, The Cult and XYZ to name a few. I want to say I heard GNR chose not to be involved. Probably because Poison were in it. Funny given what buffoons GNR came off like a short time later.

As has been mentioned, the director, Penelope Spheeris wasn’t a big fan of the genre.

That theory has been proposed many, many times on music boards, including The Velvet Rope, which was full of industry people.
The movie didn't "kill" hair metal, it was just a window into how big a fad it had become. The glut of C and D bands that got signed in 89-90 killed it. It ran its course before middle America even knew who blowbrains was.

I’ve read that for years. But compared to the miserable, suicidal, heroin addicts we got a half a dozen years later, were the C and D level hairbands really that bad? I don’t remember hearing about Phil Lewis, Kip Winger, Stephen Shareaux, Davy Vain or Danny Vaughan coming on three hours late (if Axl came on at all) or jumping into the crowd and beating photographers or fans up even when they did deserve it.

The Grunge movement became just as big of a fad in a shorter amount of time. The irony of it is, their were bummed out about the death of their good friend who was a glam guy.

The Grunge movement became just as big of a fad in a shorter amount of time. The irony of it is, their were bummed out about the death of their good friend who was a glam guy.
The same issues, substance abuse, personal challenges appeared among the hairbands...as they appear with genre of music, art and in life in general in any age and time. It is not that "being miserable", self destructive addict is tied to a certain genre of popular music.
