They were more Rock and Metal than the others from the era.

As for SG... Chris was clearly the stand-out vocalist, over the rest of Seattle & the rest of the 90's Grunge bands by a mile... but their songs were nowhere near as good.

There was A LOT of money poured into SG, and they didn't sell anywhere near what Pearl Jam, Nirvana or AIC sold.

Even the Smashing Pumpkins (Chicago) and Stone Temple Pilots (More LA and SD) outsold SG.

AIC. Kim Thayil should be homeless.

Of course Mudhoney or even Green River.

Otherwise Soundgarden all the way. More variety, better songs, changed a lot from album to album. My faves are in descending order starting with Ultramega OK tho I didn't catch on til 1990ish so it's not like it seemed they were declining and it was all pretty damn good but I never got into Down On The Upside much.

I remember one Alice In Chains show in 1991 (they seemed to open every other show I went to) that was so painfully dull it was just a wall of sludge that went on for hours though it was really 40 minutes. I guess anyone can argue with me on that but at least the first 3 of the 4 in 1991 I was one of the only ones in the building actually watching and forming the opinion. (Edited to add AIC was way better in 1993, as in better than Arrested Development and maybe Tool)

STP? Pop music to me. Bubblegrunge posers. Boy band marketing. I will admit they developed their own style later on but they were never particularly interesting to me other than an object of ridicule.

I loved the early stuff of both bands, especially Facelift so AIC I guess. They both started to suck quickly. Same goes for Pearl Jam. The first album is great and then a sharp decline.

Nirvana over them all by a LOT.

Picking a kid?
Kids are overrated like these 2 bands

Cornell had cool hair and surfers body
Layne wanted to look like Tom Keifer on Night Songs cover

Definitely would want to hang  with Cornell at fire pit on the beach..good conversation skills
Jani Lane and Bret Michaels should form a band called "Nelson II"
