Albums you returned/sold the quickest

Post by Rocker4Real »

What are some albums that you hated so much that you returned it to the store right away? It could also be something you gave to a friend or sold off.

First two Nitro discs. Picked them up out of the 'free to a good home' bin at a used record store, listened to them, and then sold them to a different record store the next weekend for like $1 each

I bought the first Rough Cutt album and hated it so much that I warped it on the stove and took it ack to the store.

I exchanged it for Ride The Lightning, which was pretty much life changing.

Ha! That's great. I've never owned a Rough Cutt album, but I saw them play a MOR Cruise pre-party at the Avalon, and it was insufferable.

I dont remember returning albums because I didnt like them, I dont think any stores had that policy.

I listened to Psycho Circus exactly once. Would have returned that in seconds if I'd had the option. WASP Helldorado was also bullshit, but had 2 decent songs on it, I fguess.

Back in the day, before the mid 90s, some chain stores would let you return a CD and get your money back. They stopped that because people would just record CDs onto cassettes and return them. Mostly Rap fans. Now, if you return a CD, they may give you a dollar and then try to sell it used for 10 dollars.

The 90’s! Post-grunge, pre-internet, CMC, Deadline/Cleopatra, Perris Records. I hated everything. I couldn’t believe that all my favorite bands were putting out such poor albums. The songs and production sucked for the most part.

I’ve come to appreciate some of those records but yeah….pretty much everything I bought after 1992 did not last.

See? That's why ya gotta warp it. They have to take it back if it's defective.

None. BMG or Columbia House was so cheap, they all just went into a CD rack, which eventually got sold en masse to the guys that installed my wood floors because I didn't want to keep dicking around with a piece of furniture that held a couple thousand discs.

I wish I had held onto my vinyl, though.

Danger Danger "Screw It", totally contrived and for me the moment I realized "Hair Metal" had run it's course. Didn't bother to try to return it, literally threw it in the trash.

Faster Pussycat industrial remix album, total shit, that one I did return.

Thats a good idea at 15.

As a 27 year old gainfully employed man, it would have been a bit pathetic to melt my CD over the stove to get 15 bucks back. Do CDs even warp like that?

Crazy Nights.

An absolute turd with no redeeming features, probably the worst album I’ve ever heard.

UFO compilation on cassette. Total junk. Put a crop of superglue on the tape and rolled it up inside. Returned it due to the cassette being jammed.

Saxon Innocence is No Excuse was complete drek, their sad attempt to make a 1980s "hit" album .... right into the bargain bin.

Skid Row - Slave to the Grind and Aerosmith - Get a Grip come to mind. Guess I don't like hard rock albums with three or more ballads on them. Don't remember how many ballads there are on Slaughter's second album but i did offload that quickly. One great tune, maybe 2 more ok and the rest blows.

Also briefly owned dreck like Anvil - Metal on Metal, Faithful Breath - Gold and Glory and some Heavy Load album, but there was no youtube in 1984 or whatever so i had to buy cheap vinyl and then keep what i liked only.

There was a small music store chain in Jersey they would let you return open cd's if you were a member, which was like a small fee each year. It was worth it if you returned albums a lot. I remember being behind a guy a the counter who was returning like 5 cd's while also buying a spindle of blank cd's lol.
Of course, people abused the policy and ruined it.

Love the band but yeah...something was up with that one.

The album cover was silly like Cherry Pie. Cartoon girl and fruit (Banana instead of a Cherry).
First single was "Monkey Business". Skid Row had a song of the same name. And Ted Poley even wore a shirt like Sebastian in the video (that metal/mesh shirt)
And I'm pretty sure "aint' no business like monkey business" is a Rodney Dangerfield quote.
I Still Think About You was Heaven with worse lyrics.
Crazy Nites, Everybody Wants Some...I've heard these titles before.
Don't Blame it on Mr. Rainmaker
Coming Home Southbound Thin Lizzy
Horny So Damn Pretty

But having said all that, I still give the album an A because of the first class production, performances and songwriting/melodies in general. It's just too obvious where the influences were coming from.

There's three ballads on that? What was their thought process? "Let's lead off with Monkey Business and STTG, so the metalheads know we're twice as metal as before, and scare every chick away from buying it, but then let the metalheads know we're still sensitive with a bunch of ballads"??

They wanted to have at least one mainstream single and there's three chances. They released 2 of them as singles in the USA. The subject matter of the slow songs isn't chick-friendly though. A song about heroin addiction and 2 others about religion.

Monkey Business may be the biggest bait-and-switch first single in hair metal.
A catchy, heavy, great song and then you buy the album and get three ballads and kiddie songs like GTFO, Riot Act and Creepshow.
