I bought Mystery City at some point in the 90s because they got name-dropped so much in the magazines back in the day and I'd never really checked them out.

It sounded like Aldo Nova without good songs.

Aldo Nova has good songs?

Semi-serious question, i have heard 2-3 Nova albums but can't remember one song. Not awful but very forgettable imo. How on Earth did his s/t go double platinum in the 1990s?

""""""""""""How on Earth did his s/t go double platinum in the 1990s?""""""""""""

What release of his went Gold, Platinum or beyond in the 1990's?

According to a quick search... none of it did! And "Blood On The Bricks" had a HUGE push with Bon Jovi involved and it still failed.

By that point Aldo Nova was well past his prime and could not compete with the era's 20-somethings who were selling.

Fantasy by Aldo Nova was MASSIVE and is still an awesome song, and Monkey On Your Back absolutely rocks too. Never heard anything by Hanoi Rocks that comes close to those.

Anyway, he didn't sell a damn thing by the 90s. I don't know where you're seeing that - maybe that's when his album was officially certified or whatever.

Aldo Nova wrote and/produced some songs for Celine Dion so if that counts he sold a few million albums.

As for MM, he’s a legend. He just never had that big crossover hit. I like all his records.

Monroe should have been next singer in Warrant after Black N Warrant era. He would have been happier and more respected. He just needs to tone down aerobic teacher on speed approach style
Jani Lane and Bret Michaels should form a band called "Nelson II"

RIAA certifications for Aldo Nova s/t album:
2x Platinum | December 5, 1994 2 Million
Platinum | February 14, 1989
Gold | May 14, 1982

What this says is that the album released in April 1982 sold 500k in a month, another 500k from 1982 to 1989, and a million between 1989 to 1994. Technically it could have sold a million in 1989 and then got recertified later, but it's not unreasonable to think most of this last million was 1990s sales.

Certifications aren't always linear... he hadn't done anything since '85, so maybe it was triggered by a label ownership change or something, and he was then maybe at ~1.5-1.8. That said, in the early days of CDs it was common for people to rebuy old favorites on CD, and him being on the Young Guns 2 ST and his subsequent JBJ-produced solo album may have goosed sales a bit.

It's absolutely idiotic to contend Zep weren't A-listers in the 1970s.

I know almost nothing about Nashville Pussy. Are they worth seeing? I’m a bigger fan of Michael Monroe than Buckcherry tbh so I am not very happy.
where's the fucking tour dates??!

The first 3 NP albums I used to listen to in heavy rotation a lot. The last studio album they put out was pretty good too given how long they’ve been around. AC/DC type sound but the vocals are def something you love or hate - there’s not an inbetween really. Fun band to see live esp when they had that Amazon on bass back in the 90’s.

The best thing about Nashville Pussy was bassist Corey Parks, who hasn't been in the band for over 25 years!

The fact that she married and had a kid with a degenerate like Duane Peters leaves one to believe her ability to make a quality decision in life.

I saw her at a skatepark with him back in the 2000's... and she was wearing some crazy platform boots that made her like 6'7"... and she was kinda dirty and street looking but still hot AF! Duane... essentially looks like a homeless wino... not sure WTF she saw in him, but oh well.

Not dissing NP... but they fall far short of Michael Monroe as a (quality) replacement, but... that is my 2-cents.

Know others weighed in, but I think Hanoi Rocks' first album is awesome. It's got that feeling where it sounds like the wheels could fall apart at any moment and the only two guys who knows what's going on is the drummer and bassist Sami Yaffa. Then I think there's a handful of good tracks on the other albums, and Two Steps From the Move is good, but feels a bit tame/reeled in compared to the others. That's both a good thing and a bad thing in my opinion.

MM solo is solid to good, but when you collect a good deal of album with a few to more good songs on each - coupled with a chunk of Hanoi Rocks songs - the show is always great.

Yeah, I’m going to have to beg to differ from the CEO on that one, but he doesn’t like Andy McCoy because of his experiences with him.
