Making an ULTIMATE Beatles playlist (with real ultimate POWER)

The one that started it all. Spreading gossip and insults since 1998.

Making an ULTIMATE Beatles playlist (with real ultimate POWER)

Post by Chip Z'Hoy »

Self-explanatory, but I'll fill you in anyway. Track 1: "In Spite of All the Danger." 1958, the Quarrymen. Track 2: "My Bonnie" with Tony Sheridan.

Final track is going to be, presumably, "Now and Then."

In between, the usual bangers, deep cuts from the various archival releases (gotta have "Leave My Kitten Alone"), and their solo records. Turns out I don't love the first McCartney album? So I'm learning a lot about myself on this journey.

The album tracks are a hodgepodge of the Giles Martin mixes (I generally really like those) and the original mono mixes (up through Rubber Soul, anyway).

The idea was to have a playlist I could put on shuffle that replicates the old Breakfast with the Beatles show. Is that still on? I just remember being 8 and hearing "Luck of the Irish" and being like "I have no idea what this is."

Did I do my own version of the White Album?

Did I replace "Revolution 9" with "What's the New Mary Jane"?

One of the few bands of which I love nearly everything they put out. Initially I didn't care much for the early stuff, but I developed an appreciation for it later on. They still have a few crap songs though. Never really done a deep dive in their solo stuff. I have Lennon's first two albums (proper solo albums, not the garbage noise albums) but it didn't really resonate with me like The Beatles stuff did.

I've been thinking of making a playlist of their quiet songs. Stuff like Yesterday, I Will, Julia, Mother Nature's Son, Blackbird, etc.

Be interested to see your final tracklist.

For me this would be an impossible task - I mean where would you start with Abbey Road? Once you've removed Maxwell/Garden, surely the entire rest of the album deserves to be included? So fucking good.

I wouldn't include cover songs. They have enough great original songs.

Ouch. The Beatles not testing well with people who don't understand Spinal Tap.
