Re: Killeverything's (New)NeverEndingBaseballThread
It's not even September 1st and it looks like the playoff spots are pretty well set, in the AL anyway.
In the AL:
Tampa & NY will get the East and WC spots
Texas has the West
Minnesota is in a pretty good shape. Chicago is the only team besides those 4 that has a shot.
At least there are still races in the NL:
The East is Cincy's to lose
SD is skidding but still has a 5 game lead
Atlanta, Philly, San Fran, St Louis, & Colorado will fight it out for the other two spots. At least that will be interesting.

Sox trade Delcarmen and cash to Rockies for minor league pitcher Chris Balcom-Miller.
Balcom-Miller is a 21-year-old right-hander who has been pitching in Class A. He hasn't been ranked among Colorado's top prospects, but in 165 2/3 innings, he has 177 strikeouts and just 29 walks.

Kinda, except Sammy could have gone to prison. Manny just didn't want to answer any questions about quitting on his last 2 teams.WhiteHouseSubsAC wrote:Kind of like Sosa at the Senate hearings, huh?johnk5150 wrote:Manny having Joey Cora interpret for him yesterday was priceless. BIG dustup in South Florida! Bench clearing brouhaha, featuring Chris Volstad and Nyjer Morgan, the fuckhead. Note Gaby Sanchez come flying and just level Morgan.

Morgan is probably going to be suspended around 13-14 games. He had one suspension on appeal, a couple of other incidents where he tried to instigate some stuff and the other team didn't respond, and now this. He'll get at least 5 for the first one and 7 for this one.

Sanchez got a hell of a shot in. Still I think the Marlins acted like punks, throwing at him TWICE. Point was made once, I don't blame him for going after the pitcher after the second one.

Re: Killeverything's (New)NeverEndingBaseballThread
What? Volstad threw way BEHIND him, didn't even come close!
Something about Morgan stealing 2nd and 3rd in the 4th inning, guess he was showing the Marlins up or something? Lots of people were pissed about that. Whatever.
I like how Volstad threw his glove down and got his feet set and was like, "BRING IT!" Fucker could barely reach him.
And WTF is up with the 3rd base coach laying down on Volly? I think he got in a shot or two. Big no-no for a coach! Suspensions will abound!
One more thing...see Pudge and another guy hold back Uggla?! If Uggla hd gotten a hold of him, with those bigass guns of his, Morgan would still be asleep!

I remember in 2003 hearing the "experts" say how Prior was a Tommy John surgery in waiting and how he had the worst mechanics in game. Though it didn't help that Dusty Baker drove his arm into the ground. Dusty destroys young pitchers.
I worry that Lincecum got too many innings too soon as well.

As long as they wait until after the Astros series to start doing it. The Astros are on a quest to climb back to .500. That Astros are as guilty as anyone the past decade of playing well when no one is paying attention.bane wrote:As long as they wait until after the Astros series to start doing it. Re: Killeverything's (New)NeverEndingBaseballThread
The past decade? Not really. They were in the mix most years through '05. The past 5 years though, absolutely, they've been terrible. They've been playing really well since the trade deadline this year though. Unfortunately they were tremendously bad leading up to it.johnk5150 wrote:That Astros are as guilty as anyone the past decade of playing well when no one is paying attention.bane wrote:As long as they wait until after the Astros series to start doing it. Don't look now, but Zambrano's era is down to 3.88. Please, please say there's a GM somewhere that's just 'out of town stupid' enough to take him off the Cubs books.

Two consecutive instant classic baseball games between the rays and Yankees this week.
Last night the game ended with crawford being tagged out at 3rd for the final out of the game in the 10th.

Is there a more exciting play than seeing a good RF gunning someone down going from 2nd to 3rd?

reminds me of the throws Dave Parker used to do when he was with the Pirates. remember the throws he made in that all-star game in Seattle? i think he threw out Downing at home.

Yeah, it's seeing him gun down a guy at home. Richard Hidalgo made a habit out of that. He was one of those guys that looked like the real deal only to see him fade into obscurity, but that guy had a laser guided cannon for an arm.johnk5150 wrote:Is there a more exciting play than seeing a good RF gunning someone down going from 2nd to 3rd?

If the Angels sign him he'll fit right in with Torii Hunter.
