They could easily implement a playoff that made them the same, if not more, money. I think worse case we end up with a plus one game sooner or later.NeverSurrender wrote:That one part of your sentence there bane, the higher payouts one, yeah that's what's different.

Who's going to buy the tickets to "all" the playoff games (most importantly)? How many people are going to be able to TRAVEL (visting team, especially) to MULTIPLE games, on short notice?bane wrote:Why not? I'm not proposing they play each other. I'm simply saying that D2 school's playoff seems to function just fine. Other than the bigger exposure and much higher payouts, what's the difference?Machado wrote:Please stop right there.bane wrote:I want a playoff too. Div 2 pulls it off just fine. I don't see how that makes the SEC any less "the best" this year. We're gauging this year based on what we've got, and what we've got says the SEC is currently the best football conference in the country.
You can not compare Div 2 teams/schools to Div 1.
Sorry. Impossible to do
Do you realize how SMALL the crowds are at D-2 playoff games (visting team's fans, especially)? There's a reason for that. Same reasoning applies to a full-fledged 16 team playoff.
Ever had to book airfare with a week or less notice? Not exactly affordable.
You'd also have to shorten the regular season. FBS teams currently play 12-13 per year. D2 plays 11. Sixteen to seventeen games is far too many football games in one season.
A "plus one" is the ideal format.
LSU/Bama winner (using this year's teams as an example) vs. OK State/Stanford winner.
That would kick ass.

Yeah, but that's like saying McDonalds will make more money if they make burgers that are better for you, like ones with real meat. Sure they might, but they're rich as fuck now, why bother?

The Big East introduced Boise State, San Diego State, Houston, SMU and Central Florida as its new members, effective 2013.
"The Big East conference is the first truly national college football conference," Commissioner John Marinatto said Wednesday during a teleconference with the university leaders from the new members.
Boise State President Bob Kustra said his school was "proud to be aboard."
The Big East, depleted by the planned departures of Syracuse, Pittsburgh and West Virginia, is trying to rebuild as a 12-team football conference with a western division.
Boise State and San Diego State, which currently play in the Mountain West Conference, will join the Big East only for football. Houston, SMU and UCF will be leaving Conference USA and joining the Big East in all sports.
"We have ambitious plans, and this expansion is a great stride toward reaching them," Marinatto said.
The Big East has also been pursuing Air Force and Navy as football only members, but those schools have yet to commit.

Not butthurt at all. Just calling out a corrupt system.

Again, "corrupt" is overstating things by a country mile. You really think the true ability of these teams, if they were somehow rated by some omniscient, all-knowing judging entity that we unfortunately have no access to, would rate these teams in a COMPLETELY DIFFERENT order? Or pretty damn close to what the BCS has rated them?Tommy wrote:Not butthurt at all. Just calling out a corrupt system.
Unless you admit the latter, you're really just fooling yourself. Slightly flawed is nowhere near "arbitrary" nor "corrupt".

The title game is probably correct, but the BCS is corrupt. Virginia freaking Tech got a BCS bid. And they were 17th in the final AP poll. But their fans travel. Money talks, once again.exitflagger wrote: Slightly flawed is nowhere near "arbitrary" nor "corrupt".

I don't know if corrupt is the right term. Outside of the title game, the rest are just entertainment productions. Ability to draw plays a role in who gets picked. If it was corrupt, it'd be a secret.Tenacious_Dio wrote:The title game is probably correct, but the BCS is corrupt. Virginia freaking Tech got a BCS bid. And they were 17th in the final AP poll. Re: BCS Title Game....
So, by your logic, once a team comes into a rebuilding timeframe, we should just totally "wash away" everything they did the previous 4,5 or 10 years? If so, there isnt any "powerhouse" teams left...fuck a USC, Alabama, Oregon, Florida, Oklahoma, Texas etc,etc....yeah, ok....cantstopthemusic wrote:How have they been the last 2 years?BodyBagz wrote:Florida - Legitimate Powerhouse
2011: Conference 3-5 Overall 6-6 OOC Opp.- FAU, UAB, Furman
2010: Conference 4-4 Overall 8-5 OOC Opp.- Miami (OH), South FL, App.St. (FCS)
Powerhouse, post-Tebow? Uhhhhh ... NO.
Florida is in the same boat as many other "powerhouse" schools..rebuilding mode for lack of a better term...Tennessee, Florida State, Texas A&M, Miami, Penn State, Texas, USC and the list goes on...all these schools have storied histories in the NCAA...and ony season could see them back to full dominance and prominence.

Out of all those you just listed, only Notre Dame has truly been resting on their laurels...as they have for 20+ years. The fact that the BCS actually has a rule in place for them as well as being named after them is refuckingdonkulous...(Notre Dame will have an automatic berth if it is in the top eight of the final BCS Standings.) <--->BCS Selection Processcantstopthemusic wrote:Please notify me when Tennessee, Florida State, Texas A&M, Miami and Notre Lame have regained a PRESENT DAY "powerhouse" status. As far as the others, I stand by what I wrote...each of those teams were powerhouses, and still have the ability to be so again. You cant wash away history..

Not really. Because number 1 and number 2 rarely met in a "title" game because of bowl alliances. Therefore more than 1 game would have championship implications.exitflagger wrote:It was that way before there ever was a BCS. Always has been.

Texas A&M hasn't really mattered since 1994. 17 years later and they still rate "powerhouse"?BodyBagz wrote:Out of all those you just listed, only Notre Dame has truly been resting on their laurels...as they have for 20+ years. Re: BCS Title Game....
Read what I wrote again...there is a key word in that sentence. Texas A&M has had roughly an above .500 rating for the last decade...some years its been less, but on the average they have been a solid 7-5 team. Given the right coach and the right recruiting class and I see no problem with them regaining their former status.bane wrote:Texas A&M hasn't really mattered since 1994. 17 years later and they still rate "powerhouse"?BodyBagz wrote: As far as the others, I stand by what I wrote...each of those teams were powerhouses, and still have the ability to be so again. The same could be said for Notre Dame, but I believe it will take ND longer to do so since they have to recruit with the recruits already knowing that they are an Independent with no real Automatic Bid for BCS Bowls unless they rank at #8 or higher in the final poll, whereas in a regular conference a team can be ranked 14th or better/(worse at times) and get a bowl.

Re: BCS Title Game....
I agree that a team like A&M will be an elite program again at some point, I just think you're criteria is far too liberal when you're labeling teams in order to rate a conference's strength. A&M has been mostly middle of the pack in the Big12 for about 15 years. They're not at the same level as an Oklahoma or a Texas. Those teams have been at or near the top of the conference the past decade or so for the most part. Any school can have a down year here and there, but sustained success is what matters. I'd call them "powerhouses".

I`m watching..although you cant tell from the score, this is not the same game from November. Alabama has switched up their offensive scheme enough to confuse LSU for the first half.
It will be interesting to see how both teams come out and play in the 2nd. Bama will be receiving for the start of this half...
