Multiple independent sources also confirmed that Vilma offered a specific bounty -- $10,000 in cash – to any player who knocked Arizona quarterback Kurt Warner out of the 2009 Divisional Playoff Game and later pledged the same amount to anyone who knocked Minnesota quarterback Brett Favre out of the 2009 NFC Championship Game the following week (played on January 24, 2010). Vilma is eligible to be reinstated after the Super Bowl in 2013."

That's great. Goodell talks the talk and back that up with action. 1 year is the minimum this fool should be receiving.
Of course he will ask for pity, try to deflect the blame away from him, but what else is new in today's world.
Vilma broke the rules and whomever those "independent sources" are did the right thing by being honest with NFL investigators.

Saints Players Punishments :

Vilma suspended 2012 Season
Hargrove suspended 8 games
Will Smith suspended 4 games
Scott Fujita suspended 3 games

• Hargrove submitted a signed declaration to the NFL not only that the Saints' bounty program existed, but that he was an active participant in it. In addition, the NFL said that Hargrove told at least one player on another team that former Minnesota Vikings quarterback Brett Favre was a target of the Saints' bounty pool in the 2009 NFC Championship Game and that Hargrove obstructed the league's investigation in 2010 when he wasn't truthful with investigators.

Saints backup quarterback Chase Daniel tweeted that Vilma found out about his suspension by watching ESPN's "SportsCenter" and not from the league itself.

Daniel's tweet: "I was standing right next 2 @jonvilma51 when he found out abt his suspension ON @SportsCenter. Really? He has to find out about it that way?"

there are time when i want to smack a newscaster in the face when
they do not report the facts.
i just overheard a local san diego newscaster who stated that "probably more than a dozen" members of the '94 team have passed away.
fucking idiot. let me guess, he read that off a teleprompter
about 20 seconds later a reporter corrected him with the correct number.
do you like the newscaster apologized? of course not.

Seau's apparent suicide comes only weeks after former Falcons safety Ray Easterling died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Easterling had been diagnosed with dementia; fellow ex-NFL players Andre Waters, Shane Dronett, Dave Duerson, and Tom McHale were all found after their own suicides to have had chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), a degenerative brain disease caused by multiple head injuries.

Duerson also died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the chest, the method chosen so as to preserve his brain for CTE research.

The USC alum is the eighth member of the 1994 Chargers Super Bowl team to have passed, including fellow linebackers Lew Bush, David Griggs and David Miller, RB Rodney Culver, C Curtis Whitley, DE Chris Mims, and DT Shawn Lee.

Gregg Williams, Vilma's Suspensions could be nullified

Andrew Brandt, ESPN's Business analyst, just got off ESPN's Mike & Mike.

Quote:

What's the NFLPA's argument?

The argument is that the new CBA, which was signed at the Hall of Fame Aug 4, has a provision in there that says the commissioner cannot levy discipline against conduct PRIOR TO THE CBA. You have the CBA Aug. 4, 2011, and then you have bounty gate WAY before. So anything before Aug. 4, this grievance says, is immune to the commissioner ruling against it.

Even if that argument fails, the NFPA argues that bountygate shouldn't be in front of Goodell. It should be in front of Ted Cottrell and Art Shell, who are designated parties to hear what goes on ON-THE-FIELD, esp. these big, violent hits.

Their strategy all along is to get this out of Goodell's control, and it appears as if they will be able to.

But Calvin Johnson is #4. Looks like since the experts can't say the Lions suck anymore after last year, they are giving Johnson all the credit.

How Much Would You Pay For Lawrence Taylor's Super Bowl Ring?

(CBS News) On Wednesday, the New York Giants received their Super Bowl XLVI rings at Tiffany's in Manhattan.

Less than 24 hours later, Lawrence Taylor - one of the franchise's most iconic players and tragic figures - put his Super Bowl XXV ring up for auction. The Hall of Famer is apparently seeking between $75,000 and $100,000 for the piece of jewelry, according to CBSSports.com.

Billed as a "phenomenally important memento from one of the greatest football players of all-time," L.T.'s 1991 ring went up for sale Thursday on the SCP Auctions website. The size-12 ring features a pair of football-shaped diamonds surrounded by 17 smaller diamonds. Taylor's name is engraved on the interior band.

The website, which says the ring will be open for bids until Saturday, also notes that "the ring shows considerable wear, that in some eyes, only enhances it aura."

As of Thursday afternoon, the highest bid was over $67,000.

As a Chargers fan, I agree... Very disappointing.

However, he still had 4,600+ yards and 7 more tds than ints.
Shit year, but numerically far from historically atrocious I guess.

Hardly think he was in the top 90 players when judged against the expectations for their position though.

Re: How Much Would You Pay For LT's Super Bowl XXV Ring?

Post by Pimp_From_The_Grave »

Pound for pound, these bookend rushers may just be blossoming into one of the league's top tandems. They're "Batman and Robin," as Miller has taken to calling them, and combined for 21 sacks in 2011.

With Peyton Manning now running the show and possibly putting plenty of points on the board, the dynamic duo figures to be even more potent this time around. Staked to a lead, Miller and Dumervil will be turned loose — just like Dwight Freeney and Robert Mathis once were when Manning was starring in Indy.

Imagine the possibilities.

http://aol.sportingnews.com/nfl/story/2 ... -chase-qbs

Peyton Manning at quarterback means Denver will win the Super Bowl. The local NFL franchise, however, is not only dreaming big, but taking bold steps to make the dream come true. Maybe that explains why a media throng nearly five dozen strong came out earlier this week to chronicle Manning do work only slightly more meaningful than mowing the lawn.

But as much as anything called Broncomania can embrace normality, some sense of sanity returned after Manning's first spring practice with the full team, when the 36-year-old veteran said he was genuinely looking forward to studying videotape of his throws. Pure football talk. It's somehow reassuring to know the TV cameras no longer fight for position at Dove Valley to record B-roll footage of Taylor Swift's dinner date

There is zero guarantee, of course, that Manning at quarterback means Denver will win the Super Bowl.
